Design of a circularly symmetric multichannel recording and reproduction system is discussed in this paper. The system consists of an array of directional microphones evenly distributed on a circle and a matching array of loudspeakers. The relation between the microphone directivity and the radius of the circular array is established within the context of time-intensity stereophony. The microphone directivity design is identified as a constrained linear least squares optimisation problem. Results of a subjective evaluation are presented which indicate the usefulness of the proposed microphone array design technique.

Investigation of tightly coupled arrays for wideband applications
Arda, Kaan; Dural Ünver, Mevlüde Gülbin; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2020-10)
This thesis aims to provide in depth research on tightly coupled dipole arrays to be used in ultrawideband apertures applications. First, operation principles of tightly coupled dipole arrays are investigated. Starting from the Wheeler’s current sheet aperture concept, some calculations on bandwidth and impedance concepts are conducted. B.A. Munk’s addition to the concept, use of capacitive elements between adjacent dipoles, are introduced. Array unit cell is modeled using equivalent circuit approach,...
Simulation of Directional Microphones in Digital Waveguide Mesh-Based Models of Room Acoustics
Hacıhabiboğlu, Hüseyin; Günel Kılıç, Banu (2010-02-01)
Digital waveguide mesh (DWM) models are time-domain numerical methods providing computationally simple solutions for wave propagation problems. They have been used in various acoustical modeling and audio synthesis applications including synthesis of musical instrument sounds and speech, and modeling of room acoustics. A successful model of room acoustics should be able to account for source and receiver directivity. Methods for the simulation of directional sources in DWM models were previously proposed. T...
Layout optimization of trusses using simulated annealing
Hasançebi, Oğuzhan (2000-09-08)
This paper addresses to the development of a simulated annealing (SA) based solution algorithm which is automated to achieve the simultaneous optimum design of truss type structures with respect to size, shape and topology design variables. The proposed algorithm is designed in such a way that together with applicability to practical design problems, it is also aimed at producing efficient and improved design solutions for the problems of interest. From the practicality point of view, the task is chosen as ...
Optimization of Power Conversion Efficiency in Threshold Self-Compensated UHF Rectifiers With Charge Conservation Principle
Gharehbaghi, Kaveh; KOÇER, FATİH; Külah, Haluk (2017-09-01)
This paper presents a compact model for threshold self-compensated rectifiers that can be used to optimize circuit parameters early in the design phase instead of time-consuming transient simulations. A design procedure is presented for finding the optimum aspect ratio of transistors used in the converter and number of rectifying stages to achieve the maximum power conversion efficiency. In the presented analysis, the relation between the power conversion efficiency and the load current over the variation o...
Design and evaluation of V-shaped arrays for 2-D DOA estimation
Filik, Tansu; Tuncer, Temel Engin (2008-04-04)
A new method for optimum design of V-shaped arrays is presented for azimuth and elevation angle estimation simultaneously. The design criterion is based on the Cramer-Rao Bound (CRB) for joint estimation where the coupling effect between the azimuth and elevation direction of arrival (DOA) angles is taken into account. The design method finds an optimum angle between the linear sub-arrays of the V-array. The computation of the optimum angle is simple due to the monotonic characteristics of the best and wors...
