Hydrogen production from ethanol over mesoporous alumina based catalysts and microwave reactor applications
Gündüz, Seval; Doğu, Timur; Department of Chemical Engineering (2014)
Due to fast depletion of fossil fuel resources and related environmental impact of CO2 emissions, the interest in hydrogen as a clean energy carrier has recently increased. Hydrogen production from bio-ethanol, which already contains large amount of water, by steam reforming process, has shown excellent potential with CO2 neutrality and renewability. Steam reforming of ethanol (SRE) process has a highly complex reaction network including numerous side reactions which decrease hydrogen yield and have a negat...
Hydrogen gas production by combined systems of Rhodobacter sphaeroides OU001 and Halobacterium salinarum in a photobioreactor
Zabut, Baker; EI-Kahlout, Kamal; Yucel, Meral; Gündüz, Ufuk; Turker, Lemi; Eroglu, Inci (2006-09-01)
Rhodobacter sphaeroides O.U.001 is a photosynthetic non-sulfur bacterium which produces hydrogen from organic compounds under anaerobic conditions. Halobacterium salinarum is an archaeon and lives under extremely halophilic conditions (4 M NaCl). H. salinarum contains a retinal protein bacteriorhodopsin in its purple membrane which acts as a light-driven proton pump. In this study the Rhodobacter sphaeroides O.U.001 culture was combined with different amounts of packed cells of H. salinarum S9 or isolated p...
Hydrogen generation from hydrolysis of ammonia-borane using Pd-PVB-TiO2 and Co-Ni-P/Pd-TiO2 under stirred conditions
Rakap, Murat; Kalu, Egwu Eric; Özkar, Saim (Elsevier BV, 2012-07-15)
The employment of Pd-PVB-TiO2 and Co-Ni-P/Pd-TiO2 in hydrogen generation from the hydrolysis of ammonia-borane (H3NBH3, AB) under stirred conditions are reported. Both catalysts are found to be highly active, isolable, and reactivatable in the hydrolysis of ammonia-borane even at low concentrations and temperature. The Arrhenius activation energies were found to be 54.9 and 54.7 kJ mol(-1) for the hydrolysis of ammonia-borane catalyzed by Pd-PVB-TiO2 and Co-Ni-P/Pd-TiO2, respectively. Maximum hydrogen gener...
