Economic growth and environment nexus: environmental Kuznets curve
Özokcu, Selin; Yücel, İsmail; Yılmaz, Ayşen; Department of Earth System Science (2015)
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the most important Green House Gases (GHGs) for contributing to global climate change. Human influence on earth through economic development is clearly emitting immense amount of CO2 emissions. Hence, examining the relationship between CO2 emissions and economic growth is crucial. In this study, the relationship between income and CO2 emissions in the context of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (hereafter EKC), which posits the existence of an inverted U-shape relationship betw...
Economic growth, energy, and environmental Kuznets curve
Özokcu, Selin; Özdemir, Özlem (2017-05-01)
The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between income and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions in the context of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC), which posits the existence of an inverted U-shape relationship between environmental degradation and economic development. For this purpose, two empirical models are examined. For both models, the relationship between per capita income and per capita CO2 emissions and the relationship among per capita income, per capita energy use, and per capita...
Economic growth and technological progress in Turkey: An analysis of Schumpeterian mechanisms
Attar, M. Aykut (Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi (Ankara, Turkey), 2017-8)
This paper studies a second-generation Schumpeterian model to understand the nature of technological progress and economic growth in Turkey. It identifies some structural parameters numerically and tests whether certain Schumpeterian mechanisms work. Results show that both horizontal (product) and vertical (process) innovation channels operate as determined in theory. However, the pace at which vertical (process) innovation occurs is extremely low, implying that its contribution to long-run productivit...
