Despite the long history of studies, the mechanism of static electricity developed on contact electrified surfaces is only poorly understood owing to the fact that it involves rather complicated events one of which is material transfer. Studies have confirmed that material transfer takes place during contacts of all electrets1,2. Although it is of vital importance because the material properties were shown to govern the phenomena of contact electrification, there has been only a few examples trying to correlate material transfer upon contact to contact charging of materials. Here we present a comprehensive study on this correlation starting with the proof of material transfer with modern experimental techniques involving X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy XPS and Confocal Raman Microscopy and showing how material transfer affects the charging (and discharging) on polymer surfaces by Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Kelvin Force Microscopy (KFM). Understanding material transfer on surfaces and the related charging is an important step to solve the identity of actual charge carriers in this 2000-year old problem.

Theoretical investigation of the nanotribological properties of the hexagonal boron nitride and gold interfaces
Özcan, Gize; Toffoli, Hande; Department of Physics (2020)
Frictional properties of two-dimensional structures on the nanoscale have gained importance, especially in the last decades, and a considerable amount of research is carried on to understand the interaction between their interfaces with well known lubricants. In industrial developments, these materials’ interfacial properties on metals have great importance. Therefore, in this thesis, we theoretically investigated the hexagonal BN and Au(111) interface with using molecular dynamics simulation. Calculation r...
ELECTRICALLY DRIVEN FLOWS IN MHD WITH MIXED ELECTROMAGNETIC BOUNDARY-CONDITIONS
Tezer, Münevver; ARIEL, PD (Wiley, 1988-01-01)
Flow of viscous, incompressible, electrically conducting fluid, driven by imposed electric currents has been investigated in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. The boundary perpendicular to the magnetic field is perfectly conducting partly along its length. Three cases have been considered: a) flow in the upper half plane when the boundary to the right of origin is insulating and that to the left is perfectly conducting, b) flow in the upper half plane when a finite length of the boundary is perfe...
Electrical characterization of vacuum-deposited n-CdS/p-CdTe heterojunction devices
Bayhan, H; Ercelebi, C (IOP Publishing, 1997-05-01)
The effects of post-deposition processes such as CdCl2 dip and/or annealing in air on the material and device properties of vacuum-evaporated Au-CdTe/CdS-TO heterojunction solar cells have been investigated. The CdCl2 dip followed by air annealing at 300 degrees C for 5 min improved the device efficiency significantly, resulting in decreased CdTe resistivity and enhanced grain size. The temperature-dependent current-voltage analysis indicated that above 280 K interface recombination dominates the current tr...
Vibration analysis of cracked beams on elastic foundation using Timoshenko beam theory
Batıhan, Ali Çağrı; Kadıoğlu, Fevzi Suat; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2011)
In this thesis, transverse vibration of a cracked beam on an elastic foundation and the effect of crack and foundation parameters on transverse vibration natural frequencies are studied. Analytical formulations are derived for a beam with rectangular cross section. The crack is an open type edge crack placed in the medium of the beam and it is uniform along the width of the beam. The cracked beam rests on an elastic foundation. The beam is modeled by two different beam theories, which are Euler-Bernoulli be...
Investigation of Au-Ag-Cu Alloy Electrodeposition to Electromechanical Systems
Cagan, Berkay; ERDOĞAN, METEHAN; Karakaya, İshak; Yilmaz, Cemil; Yurdakul, Burak (2020-04-01)
© 2020 ECS - The Electrochemical Society.Electromechanical systems, which provide electrical power and data connection between moving terminals require high conduction and erosion resistant surfaces. Transfers of electrical power and data are accomplished by the contact of drum and brush wires. The simultaneous electrochemical deposition of desired Au-Ag-Cu alloy compositions, which can be used to coat the brush wires, was investigated in this study. In the scope of the study, the static potential and cycli...
