Akpınar, Mustafa Berkay; Akyürek, Sevda Zuhal; Yanmaz, Ali Melih; Department of Civil Engineering (2023-1)
A hydraulic model is a collection of mathematical equations that give a simple representation of reality with the inputs obtained from hydrological assessments to estimate flow, flow depth and velocity in channels. Basically, hydraulic models require digital elevation models, Intensity-Duration-Frequency curves, maximum flows from hydrographs, and roughness coefficients from field studies and/or satellite images. Inherently, these major inputs have uncertainties due to the complex nature of the evalua...

A Study on the tensile strength of compacted Ankara clay and kaolin clay
Dağar, Volkan; Çokça, Erdal; Department of Civil Engineering (2017)
Tensile strength of clay, is a major mechanical parameter and is the main controlling parameter of tensile crack development which is generally encountered in geostructures. The researches to determine the tensile strength of clays are very limited. There are two kinds of methods which are used to measure the tensile strength of soils and these are named as, indirect and direct methods. In this experimental study, a direct tensile test apparatus was developed for measurement and understanding of the tensile...
A study of wet oxidized A1(x)Ga(1-x)As for integrated optics
Bek, Alpan; Champlain, JG; Naone, R (1999-04-01)
An investigation of wet oxidized Al-x Ga1-xAs layers in integrated optical applications is reported, Refractive index and thickness shrinkage of wet oxidized AI(x)Ga(1-x)As layers are measured using spectroscopic ellipsometry, A Cauchy fit to the refractive index is found in the wavelength range between 0.3 and 1.6 mu m. The refractive index at 1.55 mu m is found to be 1.66+/-0.01 with little dispersion around 1.55 mu m. Very low loss single-mode waveguides with metal electrodes showing very low polarizatio...
