Bu araştırmanın amacı, üniversite öğrencilerinin kendilerini ve başkalarını affetmelerini geliştirmeye yönelik olarak oluşturulan grupla psikolojik danışma programının etkililiğini test etmektir. Araştırma; 8’i deney, 8’i kontrol grubunda olmak üzere Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi’nde değişik bölüm ve sınıflarda eğitim gören toplam 16 öğrenciyle yürütülmüştür. Deney grubundaki öğrencilere 5 hafta süre ile haftada bir kez olmak üzere 90 dakikalık oturumlarla Enright’ın (1996) Affetme Süreç Modeli esas alınarak hazırlanmış “Affetmeyi Geliştirme Grubu” uygulanmıştır. Kontrol grubuna ölçümler arasında bir işlem uygulanmamıştır. Araştırmada öntest-sontest kontrol gruplu model kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri, Bugay ve Demir (2010a) tarafından Türkçeye çevirilen Heartland Affetme Ölçeği ile elde edilmiştir. Verilerinin analizinde parametrik olmayan istatistikler kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen Bulgulara göre; deney ve kontrol grubunun kendini affetme son test sonuçları arasında anlamlı düzeyde bir fark bulunmuştur. Ayrıca, bulgular Affetmeyi Geliştirme Programı’nın, öğrencilerin başkalarını ve genel affetmelerinin olumlu düzeyde arttırdığı yönündedir. Bu sonuçlar ışığında, affetmeyi geliştirme program uygulamaları üzerinde çalışmaların sürdürülmesi ve üniversite öğrencilerine yönelik olarak uygulamanın yaygınlaştırılması önerilebilinir.
