Mechanical Performance of Resol Type Phenolic Resin/Layered Silicate Nanocomposites
Tasan, C. Cem; Kaynak, Cevdet (Wiley, 2009-03-01)
Clay addition has been shown to affect polymer resins positively in terms of several physical and chemical properties, including mechanical performance, high temperature endurance and durability. These increases are limited only to relatively low concentrations of reinforcement phase, but at these low concentrations polymer/layered silicate nanocomposites (P/LS NC) have shown to exhibit higher mechanical performance than fiber reinforced polymer composites. This is among the several reasons that make P/LS N...
Mechanical properties of unsaturated polyester/montmorillonite composites
Inceoglu, AB; Yılmazer, Ülkü (2001-11-29)
Nanocomposites composed of unsaturated polyester matrix and organically modified clay filler were prepared. After the synthesis, XRD patterns showed that the interlayer spacing expanded from 1.25 nm to 4.5 nm. The mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were determined and it was found that adding only 3 w/w % organically modified clay improved the flexural modulus of unsaturated polyester by 35%. From DSC diagrams, it was found that T-g values of the nanocomposites also increased with the clay content....
Mechanical behavior of metallic glass / HCP nanolayered coatings
Özerinç, Sezer; Motallebzadeh, Amir (null; 2019-09-01)
Introduction/Purpose High hardness, large elastic limits and grain-boundary free structure of metallic glasses (MG) make them promising materials for wear resistant, corrosion resistant and biocompatible coatings [1]. However, the brittle nature of MGs in monolithic form is a major disadvantage. MG/crystalline nanolayered composites can overcome this problem by impeding the catastrophic propagation of shear bands [2]. Most studies so far on these nanocomposites have focused on MG/FCC crystalline structures ...
