Removal of endocrine disrupting compounds in a lab-scale anaerobic/aerobic sequencing batch reactor unit
Muz, M.; Ak, S.; Komesli, O. T.; Gökçay, Celal Ferdi (2014-05-03)
The fate and removal of six selected endocrine disrupting compounds in a lab-scale anaerobic/aerobic (A/O) sequencing batch reactor (SBR), operating at 5 days, solids retention time (SRT) were investigated. A carbamazepine (CBZ), acetaminophen (ATP), diltiazem (DTZ), butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), estrone and progesterone mix was spiked as model endocrine disrupting compounds (EDC) into domestic wastewater obtained from a nearby sewage treatment plant. The influent, effluent and sludge samples from the SBR u...
Removal of chloridazon herbicide from wastewaters using FE/H2O2, UV/ H2O2 and UV/FE/ H2O2
Ulu, Hatice Bike; Dilek, Filiz Bengü; Değermenci, Nejdet; Department of Environmental Engineering (2019)
Chloridazon (5 -amino-4- chloro-2-phenyl-3(2H)-pyridazinon), also named as Pyrazon and classified as organochlorine pesticides, is widely used during sugar beets cultivation. Chloridazon (CLZ) being a pesticide with a high solubility in water is likely to end up in surface and groundwater bodies because of its high mobility in soil. Due to its toxic properties, it may cause serious problems on human health and ecological cycle. In the present study, the removal of CLZ herbicide from water was investigated b...
Removal of Crystal Violet and Eriochrome Black T Dyes from Aqueous Solutions by Magnetic Nanoparticles Biosynthesized from Leaf Extract of Fraxinus Chinensis Roxb
Ali, Imran; Peng, Changsheng; Khan, Zahid M.; Sultan, Muhammad; Naz, Iffat; Ali, Mohsin; Farid, Hafiz U.; Mahmood, Muhammad H.; Ahsen, Rameez (HARD Publishing Company, 2019-01-01)
In the present research, a "green" recipe was used to produce innovative phytogenic magnetic nanoparticles (PMNPs) from leaf extract of Fraxinus chinensis Roxb without employing any additional toxic surfactants as capping agents. The convenient reaction between metal salt solution and plant biomolecules occurred within a few minutes by color changes from pale green to intense black, hinting at the production of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs). The formation of PMNPs was verified by employing different techniq...
Removal of trihalomethane precursors by granular activated carbon treatment
CAPAR, Goksen; Demirer, Göksel Niyazi; Dilek, Filiz Bengü; Yetiş, Ülkü (2001-02-01)
This research covers the determination of the existing situation of trihalomethane (THM) levels in the distribution system of Ankara City and also focuses on the investigation of effectiveness of granular activated carbon (GAC) adsorption for the removal of natural organic matter (NOM) that are THM precursors and also THMs. For this purpose, a survey was carried out at 14 selected points in the city and the THMs were observed to be present in the Ivedik Water Treatment Plant (IWTP) filter effluent and in th...
Removal of hexavalent chromium anions via polymer enhanced ultrafiltration using a fully ionized polyelectrolyte
HAKTANIR, CEREN; Ozbelge, H. Onder; Bicak, Niyazi; Yılmaz, Levent (Informa UK Limited, 2017-01-01)
A fully ionized polyelectrolyte was synthesized for Cr(VI) removal from aqueous solutions by continuous polymer enhanced ultrafiltration (PEUF). Effect of operating parameters such as pH, loading, polymer, and competing ion concentrations were examined. Highest Cr(VI) retention was obtained at a loading of 0.01 at pH 4. Increasing both polymer and chromate concentrations at a fixed loading of 0.01 decreased the retention which demonstrated the effect of crowding. In the presence of competing anions such as ...
