Pressure-velocity coupling algorithm-based pressure reconstruction from PIV for laminar flows
Gunaydinoglu, Erkan; Kurtuluş, Dilek Funda (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2020-01-01)
In this study, we propose a method to reconstruct pressure fields from planar particle image velocimetry measurements for laminar flows by employing semi-implicit method for pressure-linked equations algorithm to solve governing equations where measured velocities are inherently used as boundary conditions. The method starts with interpolating the measured velocity field on a staggered computational grid. The continuity equation, in the form of pressure equation for incompressible flows, is solved with this...
Pressure-driven water flow through hydrophilic alumina nanomembranes
Koklu, Anil; Li, Jianing; Şengör, Sema Sevinç; Beskok, Ali (2017-07-01)
We present an experimental study that focuses on pressure-driven flow of distilled water through. alumina membranes with 5, 10 and 20 nm pore radii. The nanopore geometry, pore size and porosity are characterized using scanning electron microscopy images taken pre- and post-flow experiments. Comparisons of these images have shown reduction in the pore size, which is attributed to precipitation of hydroxyl groups on alumina surfaces. Measured flowrates compared with the Hagen-Poiseuille flow relations consis...
Stress Scaling Factors for Seismic Soil Liquefaction Engineering Problems: A Performance-Based Approach
Çetin, Kemal Önder; Bilge, Habib Tolga (2013-06-19)
Most of the widely used seismic soil liquefaction triggering methods propose cyclic resistance ratio (CRR) values valid at the reference normal effective stress (sigma(v,0)') of one atmosphere and zero static shear stress (tau(st,0)) states. Then, a series of correction factors are applied on this reference CRR, for the purpose of assessing the variability due to normal effective and static shear stress states (i.e. K-sigma and K-alpha corrections) acting on the horizontal plane. In the literature, a number...
