Analysis of drought events in North Cyprus
Khan, Sana; Akıntuğ, Bertuğ; Sustainable Environment and Energy Systems (2019-9)
Drought is a temporary climatic condition which arises due to lack of precipitation. It has become an important natural phenomenon for North Cyprus due to its semi-arid climate and with vulnerabilities culminating as a result of climate change there is a dire need to keep a good track of such extreme climate events for sustainable water resource management. The island is facing serious water shortages, and for Mediterranean region climate change impacts on water resources has become a pressing issue, hence,...
Analysis of Accelerations from the 1 October 1995 Dinar, Turkey, earthquake
Anderson, JG; Zeng, YH; Sucuoğlu, Haluk (2001-12-01)
The Dinar earthquake, 1 October 1995, occurred in southwestern Turkey and had a moment magnitude of 6.4 and a normal faulting mechanism. The earthquake caused 90 deaths, over 200 injuries, and a large amount of damage. It was recorded by seven strong-motion accelerographs. The strong-motion accelerograph at Dinar is on the edge of the surface projection of the fault. The record from Dinar is possibly unique in its proximity to the causative fault for this type of mechanism. The Dinar strong-motion station i...
Analysis of traffic incidents in METU campus
Keskin, Fatih; Yenilmez, Firdes; Colak, Mithat; Yavuzer, Ipek; Düzgün, Hafize Şebnem (2010-06-05)
In the recent years, traffic incidents sharply increase in Turkey. Although traffic regulations strictly applied in Middle East Technical University Campus (METU), Ankara, Turkey, this increasing trend also present in the campus. To prevent traffic incidents, it is crucial to understand where and how they take place, the relations among the incidents, and the locations. The aim of this study is to make a traffic pattern analysis concerning time and locations within METU Campus using spatial data analysis to...
Analysis of the 2007 and 2013 Droughts in Turkey by NOAH Hydrological Model
Bulut, Burak; Yılmaz, Mustafa Tuğrul (2016-10-01)
Analysis of drought, which is classified as a natural disaster, is globally considering the damage it gives. As a result detection of its characteristics is essential for understanding and reducing the effects of this natural disaster and for imminent prediction. In this study, soil moisture estimates obtained from NOAH hydrological model and normalized difference vegetation index obtained from MODIS observations are used to analysis the recent droughts in Turkey. With the utilization of these parameters th...
Analysis of extreme rainfall trend and mapping of the Wadi pluvial flood in the Gaza coastal plain of Palestine
Al-Najjar, Hassan; Purnama, Anton; Özkan, Korhan; Abualtayef, Mazen (2022-09-01)
In the eastern Mediterranean region of the Middle East and North Africa, pluvial flooding has become a common and severe climate change consequence event that requires immediate attention. The Wadi-Gaza basin is a critical source of surface water in Palestine; nevertheless, climate change and anthropogenic processes are altering the basin's hydrological features, resulting in a series of extreme and disastrous flooding events in the coastal plain at the basin downstream. The Mann-Kendall test, Sen's slope e...
