The geotechnical investigations carried out at two different NPP sites are Part of the detailed site investigation program. It includes studies such as, assessment of rock mass conditions encountered at the two NPP sites and determination of geotechnical parameters by field investigations, determination of physical and mechanical properties of the basic rock types by laboratory tests, evaluation of the stability of foundations and pit slopes under design loading conditions by engineering analyses. Based on these studies the most favorable layouts for various NPP units are suggested.

Geotechnical investigations and preliminary support design for the Gecilmez tunnel: A case study along the Black Sea coastal highway, Giresun, northern Turkey
Akgün, Haluk; Kockar, Mustafa Kerem (2014-02-01)
This study encompasses geotechnical investigations, stability assessments and design of the preliminary support systems for the Gecilmez tunnel which is constructed in Giresun for the improvement of the highway along the Black Sea coast. During the study, a detailed geological map of the study area was prepared and the geotechnical characteristics of the rock masses were determined. The rock mass classification of the tunnel grounds was performed by utilizing the RMR method, Q system, NATM and the Geologica...
A Multi-layer model for privacy preserving policy making for disclosure of public health data
Alizadeh Mizani, Mehrdad; Baykal, Nazife; Department of Medical Informatics (2013)
Health organizations in Turkey collect ever-increasing amount of individual data are valuable source of information for public health research. However, due to privacy risks, they publish data in aggregated rather than individual forms. The lack of standardized policies regarding secondary uses of health data leads to ineffectiveness of available technical methods. As a result, access to and utilization of person-specific datasets by public health researchers become extremely cumbersome. The bias introduced...
Semantic transformation framework to enable statistical research on medical summaries
Paçacı, Anıl; Altıngövde, İsmail Sengör; Doğaç, Asuman; Department of Computer Engineering (2015)
One of the important aspects of the clinical research studies carried out in the pharmacovigilance and pharmacoepidemiology is the postmarketing drug surveillance. Utilization of the available Electronic Health Record (EHR) data is key to complement and strengthen the postmarketing safety studies. In addition, EHRs provide a huge, but still under-utilized source of information for the observational studies in clinical research. However, use of different EHR data models and vocabularies presents an important...
Crack propagation in a commercial steel
Bilir , Oğuz Gürkan (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1988-5)
In this work, the fatigue crack propagation behaviour of commercial steel sheet specimens containing a circular hole, under uniaxial loading conditions at room temperature was investigated. The experimental data have been analysed in terms of variability of material constants. The results were presented in the form of power relationship between the crack growth rate and the stress intensity factor range.
Evaluation of seismic response factors for BRBFs using FEMA P695 methodology
Ozkihc, Yasin Onuraip; Bozkurt, Mehmet Bakir; Topkaya, Cem (Elsevier BV, 2018-12-01)
This paper reports the details of a numerical study undertaken to evaluate seismic response factors for steel buckling-restrained braced frames (BRBFs) using the FEMA P695 methodology. In the United States, BRBFs are designed according to Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures (ASCE 7) and the Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings (AISC 341). Twenty-four archetypes were designed according to the U.S. specifications and their behavior was assessed by making use of non-simulated c...
