A comparative study of the thermal performance of building materials
Elias Özkan, Soofia Tahira; Surmeli, Nesen; Yannas, Simos (2006-12-01)
This study focuses on the environmental performance of a selection of buildings in the typical Central Anatolian village of Şahmuratli in Turkey. The objective was to search for affordable and energy-efficient construction techniques suitable for rural settlements and incorporating traditional cultural values in a semi-arid upland region characterised by long severe winters and hot, dry summers. This was pursued by analysing temperature and humidity measurements within buildings constructed from a variety o...

A comparative study of modified strain gradient theory and modified couple stress theory for gold microbeams
KANDAZ, Murat; Dal, Hüsnü (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2018-11-01)
Microbeams are common structures encountered in micro-and nano-electromechanical systems. Their mechanical response cannot be modelled by local theories of continuum mechanics due to size effect, which becomesmore pronounced as the structural length scale approaches themicrostructural length scale. The size effect can be circumvented by higher-order continuum theories. In this study, Euler-Bernoulli microbeams are analysed with modified strain gradient theory (MSGT) and modified couple stress theory (MCST)....

A comparative study of spectrophotometric and iodometric back titration methods for hydrogen sulfide determination in anoxic basins
Basturk, O; Romanov, A; Gokmen, S; Konovalov, S (2000-01-01)
Iodometric Back Titration (TBT) and Spectrophotometric (SPM) methods are two common methods used in the determination of hydrogen sulfide concentrations in anoxic basins, like in the upper sections of the Black Sea anoxic waters. Although the results obtained by both methods are in agreement when the concentrations of sulfide are higher than 30 mu M/l, IBT analysis gives more reproducible results compared to SPM analysis. On the other hand, the reproducibility of the SPM is better than that of IBT method wh...
