Web service technology is an Internet-based distributed computing paradigm to address interoperability in heterogeneous distributed systems. In this paper, we present a privacy framework for Web services which allows user agents to automatically negotiate with Web services on the amount of personal information to be disclosed on behalf of the user. In developing this framework the following key privacy considerations are taken into account: revealing only the minimal pertinent information about the user, not to overwhelm the users while declaring their privacy preferences and requiring only limited user interaction. In the framework proposed, the Web services declare their input parameters as Mandatory or Optional and allow users to declare how much of their personal information can be made available to the services. The users specify their privacy preferences in different permission levels on the basis of a domain specific service ontology based on DAML-S. The major components of the system are a globally accessible context server which stores user preferences and a service registry where the services advertised and the service semantics are available. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

A Cloud Based Workflow for a Finite Element Analysis Preprocessor
Kurt, Tolga; Arıcı, Yalın; Kurç, Özgür (2015-03-24)
This paper presents a cloud based workflow and a software implementation that has a web-based GUI and a modular backend server which consists of an interface and many worker applications that are distributed over a network of computers or virtual machines. The implemented software is capable of three-dimensional modelling, mesh generation and analysis of large dam models using finite element and analysis. Visualization is performed with a web browser using the JavaScript library three.js which drives the We...
A visual programming framework for distributed Internet of Things centric complex event processing
Gökalp, Mert Onuralp; Koçyiğit, Altan; Eren, Pekin Erhan (2019-03-01)
Complex Event Processing (CEP) is a promising approach for real-time processing of big data streams originating from Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Even though scalability and flexibility are key issues for IoT applications, current studies are mostly based on centralized solutions and restrictive query languages. Moreover, development, deployment and operation of big-data applications require significant amount of technical expertise. Hence, a framework that provides a higher abstraction level programmi...
A measurement framework for component oriented software systems
Salman, Nael; Doğru, Ali Hikmet; Department of Computer Engineering (2006)
A measurement framework is presented for component oriented (CO) software systems. Fundamental concepts in component orientation are defined. The factors that influence CO systems’ structural complexity are identified. Metrics quantifying and characterizing these factors are defined. A set of properties that a CO complexity metric must satisfy are defined. Metrics are evaluated first using the set of properties defined in this thesis and also using the set of properties defined by Tian and Zelkowitz in [84]...
A certificate based authentication control model using smart mobile devices for ubiquitous computing environments
Çavdar, Davut; Eren, Pekin Erhan; Department of Information Systems (2011)
In this thesis work, a certificate based authentication model supported by mobile devices is provided for ubiquitous computing environments. The model primarily aims to create an infrastructure for controlling and regulating access requests through mobile devices to local resources and services. The model also allows users from different domains to use local resources and services within the scope of agreements between domains. In addition to conceptual description of the model, a real prototype implementat...
