Fluorine-doped tin dioxide (FTO) thin films were produced via conventional spray pyrolysis and ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP) methods using alcohol-based solutions. The prepared films were compared in terms of crystal structure, morphology, surface roughness, visible light transmittance, and electronic properties. Upon investigation of the grain structures and morphologies, the films prepared using ultrasonic spray method provided relatively larger grains and due to this condition, carrier mobilities of these films exhibited slightly higher values. Dyesensitized solar cells and 10 × 10 cm modules were prepared using commercially available and USP-deposited FTO/glass substrates, and solar performances were compared. It is observed that there exists no remarkable efficiency difference for both cells and modules, where module efficiency of the USP-deposited FTO glass substrates is 3.06% compared to commercial substrate giving 2.85% under identical conditions. We demonstrated that USP deposition is a low cost and versatile method of depositing commercial quality FTO thin films on large substrates employed in large area dye-sensitized solar modules or other thin film technologies. © 2018 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE).

Conducting fluorine doped tin dioxide (FTO) coatings by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis for heating applications
Süer, Başar; Özenbaş, Ahmet Macit (2021-06-01)
Fluorine doped tin dioxide (FTO) coatings were deposited on AISI 304 stainless steel (SS) substrates using ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP) technique. Four different candidate insulating intermediate layers of TiO2, MgO, Al2O3 and SiO2 were selected and coated on AISI 304 SS using USP and investigated in order to overcome dielectric breakdown of FTO layer due to conductive nature of stainless steel substrate under the applied voltage. After the optimization of the process parameters for the depositions, onl...
Structural and optoelectronic properties of vanadium pentoxide thin films deposited by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis.
Koç, Şeyma; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2019)
Nanocrystalline vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) thin films were deposited onto fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) coated glass substrates using ultrasonic spray pyrolysis and spin coating methods. The formation behavior of thin films, the effects of different production methods on the characteristics of the films and their microstructural / physical properties were investigated as a function of annealing temperature in the range of 450-550 °C and other controllable process parameters. Structural, morphological and op...
Production of inorganic charge selective layers for mesoscopic perovskite solar cells
İçli, Kerem Çağatay; Özenbaş, Ahmet Macit; Akata Kurç, Burcu; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2017)
In this work, nanoparticles of lithium doped nickel oxide (NiO) were synthesized by common wet chemistry methods like precipitation, ultrasonic spray pyrolysis and flame spray pyrolysis methods. Synthesized nanoparticles were employed in fully metal oxide mesoscopic perovskite based solar cells. Lithium doping of NiO was achieved by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method and flame spray pyrolysis methods. Flame spray pyrolysis method was used to synthesize yttrium doped titanium dioxide (TiO2) and magnesium oxid...
Solution processed aluminum-doped ZnO thin films for transparent heater applications
Tonbul, Beyza; Can, Hilal; Öztürk, Tayfur; Akyıldız, Hasan (2021-06-01)
A study was carried out to tailor the properties of ultrasonic spray pyrolysis deposited Al-doped ZnO (AZO) thin films suitable for transparent heater applications. For this purpose, the influences of solvent/precursor type and molarity, Al-doping concentration, nozzle to substrate distance, solution flow rate, carrier gas flow, substrate temperature, and post-deposition annealing on the microstructure, electrical, optical properties, and heating/ deicing behaviors of the films were investigated. The optimi...
