Oxidation of organic sulfides by N-halamine compounds
Akdağ, Akın; Worley, S. D. (Informa UK Limited, 2007-07-01)
N-halamine chemistry has been an important research topic in these laboratories for over two decades, offering many exciting opportunities both from practical and pedagogical points of view. One of these opportunities is in the use of polymer- and silica gel-bound N-halamines as selective oxidizing agents for organosulfur compounds. In this study, they have been employed to selectively oxidize organic sulfides including dimethyl sulfide and chloroethyl ethyl sulfide, the chemical mustard stimulant. The latt...
Oxidation of Acid Red-151 aqueous solutions by the peroxone process and its kinetic evaluation
Acar, Ebru; Ozbelge, Tulay (Informa UK Limited, 2006-06-01)
Oxidation of an azo dye solution, namely, Acid Red 151 by the peroxone process was investigated experimentally at different pH values, initial dye and ozone concentrations, and the initial molar ratios (r) of hydrogen peroxide to ozone. At pH 2.5 in this process, the obtained color and chemical oxygen demand (COD) removals were higher than those at pH of 7 and 10. The best value of r yielding the highest treatment efficiency at each pH was determined as 0.5. The application of the "initial rates method" to ...

Oxidation of Low Chromium Steels in Dry and Moist Atmospheres
Erdoğan, Metehan; Sultan, Abdelrahman; Karakaya, İshak (2017-01-01)
P-5 (5%Cr) steel is used in the construction of high temperature industrial equipment that works in the flue gas environment because of its high corrosion resistance. However, there are studies reporting higher oxidation rates of Cr containing steels in moist environments when compared to oxidation in air. In order to understand the oxidation behaviour of P-5 steel, isothermal oxidation tests were performed in two different environments; air and flue gas composition of natural gas combustion (CO2+2H2O+7.52N...
Oxidation of some alkoxy-cycloheptatriene derivatives: unusual formation of furan and furanoids from cycloheptatrienes
Coskun, Ahmet; Guney, Murat; Dastan, Arif; Balcı, Metin (Elsevier BV, 2007-06-04)
The oxidation of some alkoxy tropone and tropone ketal derivatives with singlet oxygen and m-chloroperbenzoic acid was investigated. In most cases furan and furanoid derivatives were isolated. The structures of the formed products were determined by means of spectral data and the formation mechanism of these unusual products is discussed.
