Nationwide Study On Science Teacher Candidates’ Knowledge Of Environmental Issues

Öğretmenler, gezegenimizde sürdürülebilir bir gelecek hazırlanabilmesi için gelecek nesillerin yaşam biçimlerine ve kararlarına şekil verebilen önemli unsurların arasında gelmektedir. Fakat bu hedefe ulaşmak için öğretmenlerin çevre üzerine bilgi, farkındalık, değerler ve sorumluluk gibi yeterliklere sahip olmaları gerekmektedir.Bu doğrultuda, ulusal düzeydeki bu çalışma Türkiye’deki fen bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının çevre konuları üzerine bilgi düzeylerini ortaya çıkarmayı amaçlamıştır. Bilişsel bir yapı olarak çevre bilgisi sosyodemografik değişkenler açısından da incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın örneklemini fen bilgisi öğretmenliği programında öğrenim görmekte olan 944 üçüncü, 516 dördüncü sınıf öğrencileri oluşturmuştur. Bu öğretmen adaylarına güvenirlik ve geçerlik çalışmaları yapılmış, çoktan seçmeli toplam 12 sorudan oluşan Çevre Bilgi Testi uygulanarak veri toplanmıştır. Sonuçlar, öğretmen adayların çevre üzerine bilgilerinin yetersiz düzeyde olduğunu göstermektedir. Özellikle, küresel ısınmanın nedenleri, enerji kaynakları, tatlı su kaynakları ve asit yağmularının oluşumu konularındaki sorulara doğru cevap veren öğretmen adaylarının oranı oldukça düşüktür. Öte yanda, kırsal bölgelerde yetişmiş erkek öğretmen adaylarının bilgi düzeyi kısmen daha yüksektir. Bu çalışmanın sonuçları bizi krtik bir soruyla karşı kaşıya bırakmaktadır:”Bu öğretmen adayları kendi öğrencilerine çevre ile ilgili konuları ne ölçüde etkili öğretebilirler?”. Öğretmen adaylarının bilgi düzeyleri göz önüne alınırsa güncel fen bilimleri öğretim programında yer alan hedeflere ulaşmanın zor olacağı sonucuna varılmıştır.
