Parameter design optimization that involves two or more responses of products or processes is a well-known research problem. This problem involves multiple objectives typically formulated as response surface models using regression. These models are constructed with some prediction error even though the model structure is appropriate. In comparing alternative solutions of the model, the decision maker (DM) has difficulty to comprehend closeness of mean response is to its target, variance of true response (robustness) and magnitude of prediction error. In this study, these components are analyzed under certain conditions and guidance is provided for the DM to facilitate the comparison.

A new method for design parameter optimization of products or processes with an ordinal categorical response
Erdoğan, Pınar; Köksal, Gülser; Dolgun, Leman Esra; Department of Industrial Engineering (2022-8)
It is an important design problem to obtain the best parameter values that are insensitive to the variability of input, process or environmental factors of a product or process. Therefore, many industrial organizations use robust parameter design (RPD). While there are many methods in the literature for design parameter optimization with continuous quality characteristics, fewer studies are found for ordered categorical quality characteristics. This study proposes a new method for finding robust levels of d...
Residual based Adaptive Unscented Kalman filter for satellite attitude estimation
Söken, Halil Ersin (2012-12-01)
Determining the process noise covariance matrix in Kalman filtering applications is a difficult task especially for estimation problems of the high-dimensional states where states like biases or system parameters are included. This study introduces a simplistic residual based adaptation method for the Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF), which is used for small satellite attitude estimation. For a satellite with gyros and magnetometers onboard, the proposed adaptive UKF algorithm estimates the attitude as well as...
An Approach for introducing a set of domain specific components
Yiğit, İbrahim Onuralp; Doğru, Ali Hikmet; Department of Computer Engineering (2015)
In this thesis, a preliminary methodology is proposed for the determination of a set of components to populate the domain model of a Software Product Line infrastructure. Software Product Line based approaches focus on the reusability of assets for a family of software products. For effective reuse, the definition of reusable assets in this thesis considers variability in a domain. The approach is based on variability specifications that is rooted in Feature Models and is reflected to a component modeling n...
Pareto Front Particle Swarm Optimizer for Discrete Time-Cost Trade-Off Problem
Aminbakhsh, Saman; Sönmez, Rifat (2017-01-01)
Intensive heuristic and metaheuristic research efforts have focused on the Pareto front optimization of discrete time-cost trade-off problem (DTCTP). However, very little success has been achieved in solving the problem for medium and large-scale projects. This paper presents a new particle swarm optimization method to achieve an advancement in the Pareto front optimization of medium and large-scale construction projects. The proposed Pareto front particle swarm optimizer (PFPSO) is based on a multiobjectiv...
A Proposed information systems framework for effective delivery of user research findings
Töre Yargın, Gülşen (2011-06-25)
Integration of user research findings into product design process is a well-received issue. There is a tremendous research on how to conduct user research and methodologies for generating user data. However delivering that information effectively is as important as the quality of data generated through user research, since if it is not delivered effectively the impact that is demanded by the product developers would not be achieved. Therefore the requirements for the deliverables should be conceptualized be...
