In order for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to perform complex missions and collaborate with other Unmanned Vehicles, significant advances in software architecture must be made. A particular configuration while valid at the start of a mission may not be ideal when a new situation arises. This paper brie y describes the Virtual Resource Network (VRN) concept which allows reconfiguration to take place during the mission. The VRN provides the unique ability to maximize the use of all available resources by reconfiguring to mission demands online. The Aerial Robotics Mission configuration and the set of resources required to accomplish it is also presented.

Multifocal LIDAR Systems
Ürkmen, Koray; Yüce, Emre; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2022-8-29)
LIDAR systems are commonly used in automation applications, autonomous vehicles, military systems, and other new application areas that are increasingly expanding with the recent developments in LIDAR technology. LIDAR systems are used for getting 3 Dimensional information about the target which is very important for most of the advanced systems and algorithms that are used for the recognition and identification of objects. The most well-known distance measurement techniques for LIDAR systems are the direct...
A flexible reference point-based multi-objective evolutionary algorithm: An application to the UAV route planning problem
DAŞDEMİR, ERDİ; Köksalan, Mustafa Murat; TEZCANER ÖZTÜRK, DİCLEHAN (Elsevier BV, 2020-02-01)
We study the multi-objective route planning problem of an unmanned air vehicle (UAV) moving in a continuous terrain. In this problem, the UAV starts from a base, visits all targets and returns to the base in a continuous terrain that is monitored by radars. We consider two objectives: minimizing total distance and minimizing radar detection threat. This problem has infinitely many Pareto-optimal points and generating all those points is not possible. We develop a general preference-based multi-objective evo...
Route planning for unmanned air vehicles
Tulum, Kamil; İder, S. Kemal; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2009)
In this thesis, automatic routing technologies for unmanned air vehicles are investigated. A route planner that minimizes the fuel consumption and maximizes the survivability is developed. While planning the route, using more than one objective entails the auto-routing problem to multi-objective optimization considerations. In this work, these considerations are handled with search algorithms. In order to assess the route options, a fuel consumption model and a survivability model are utilized for the route...
An analytical approach for modelling unmanned aerial vehicles and base station interaction for disaster recovery scenarios
Owilla, Eugene; Ever, Enver; Computer Engineering (2022-8)
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are an emerging technology with the potential to be used in various sectors for a wide array of applications and services. In wireless networking, UAVs are a vital part of supplementary infrastructure aimed at improv- ing coverage principally during public safety crises. Due to their relatively low cost and scalability of use, there has been a mushrooming focus into the roles that UAVs can play in ameliorating service provided to stranded ground devices. Following a public sa...
Interactive approaches for bi-objective UAV route planning in continuous space
Türeci, Hannan; Köksalan, Murat; Tezcaner Öztürk, Diclehan; Department of Industrial Engineering (2017)
We study the route planning problem of unmanned air vehicles (UAVs). We consider two objectives; minimizing total distance traveled and minimizing total radar detection threat since these objectives cover most of the other related factors. We consider routing in a two-dimensional continuous terrain, in which we have infinitely many efficient trajectories between target pairs. We develop interactive algorithms that find the most preferred solution of a route planner (RP), who has either of the underlying pre...
