Molecular identification and typing of lactobacillus delbrueckii subspecies bulgaricus and streptococcus thermophilus
Cebeci Aydın, Aysun; Gültekin, Güzin Candan; Department of Biochemistry (2008)
Lactic acid bacteria are associated with preservation of foods, including milk, meat and vegetables. Yoghurt is produced by the cooperative action of two starter bacteria; S. thermophilus and L. delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus. In this study, identification and typing of yoghurt starter bacteria were aimed. Traditional home made yoghurts were collected from different areas of Turkey, identification of those isolates at species and subspecies level and typing at strain level were achieved using PCR based metho...
Molecular phylogenetic analyses of Juniperus L. species in Turkey and their relations with other junipers based on cpDNA
Güvendiren, Aysun Demet; Kaya, Zeki; Department of Biology (2015)
Evolutionary relationships within and among two sections and three subsections of Juniperus species (Section Juniperus, subsections Juniperus, Oxycedrus and Caryocedrus, Section Sabina) naturally distributed in Turkey were investigated with molecular variations of chloroplast DNA (cpDNA). This study revealed the phylogenetic relation of 66 individuals from 7 native Turkish Juniperus L. species based upon DNA sequence of trnL intron (trnL5’-L3’) , trnL3’- F(GAA) (trnL-F intergenic spacer), trnV intron and ma...
Molecular phylogeny of relict-endemic Liquidambar orientalis Mill based on sequence diversity of the chloroplast-encoded matK gene
Ozdilek, Asli; Cengel, Burcu; Kandemir, Gaye; Tayanc, Yasemin; Velioglu, Ercan; Kaya, Zeki (2012-02-01)
The genetic diversity and evolutionary divergence in Liquidambar species and Liquidambar orientalis varieties were compared with respect to the matK gene. A total of 66 genotypes from 18 different populations were sampled in southwestern Turkey. The matK region, which is about 1,512 bp in length, was sequenced and studied. L. orientalis, L. styraciflua, and L. formosana had similar magnitude of nucleotide diversity, while L. styraciflua and L. acalycina possessed higher evolutionary divergence. The highest ...
Molecular phylogentic relationship among Türkish Salix species Seguence analysis of Chloroplast rbcL and nuclear ETS regions
Acar, Pelin; Özdemir Değirmenci, Funda; Kaya, Zeki (null; 2016-09-09)
Molecular phylogenetic analysis resolving the taxonomic discrepancies among Salix L. species naturally found in Turkey
Acar, Pelin; Değirmenci, Funda Ö.; DUMAN, HAYRİ; Kaya, Zeki (2022-01-01)
Detailed phylogenetic relationships and molecular dating are still quite rare for the complex and diverse genus Salix L. Here we focus on the taxonomic status and phylogeny of twenty-six Salix taxa naturally found in Turkey using the chloroplast DNA regions (trn T-F, matK, and rbcL) to unravel the relationship among them. The status of Salix species was also checked in the phylogenetic tree constructed with the data from Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) region of nuclear gene, including 158 accessions from...
