Abstract: In this study we consider a joint manufacturing and remanufacturing environment. The remanufacturing process is imperfect. Unsatisfied demand is completely lost. It is possible to dispose the returns. Manufacturing and remanufacturing operations are carried out in the same facility on dedicated lines. The objective is to maximize expected average profit. We propose 4 alternative policies to control the system. In this talk, the policies and the computational study are discussed.

Silicon-based preceramic polymers and their uses in polymer composites: synthesis, characterization and processing
Dönmez Karadal, Sibel; Bayram, Göknur; Department of Chemical Engineering (2011)
The objectives of this study are to synthesize poly(dimethylsilane) (PDMS) preceramic polymer and to investigate its effect on morphology, flame retardant and mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP) based composites. There are mainly two parts in this thesis. In the first part, PDMS was synthesized by electrochemical polymerization of dichlorodimethylsilane, which was dissolved in 1,2 dimethoxyethane (DME) solvent consisting of tetrabutyl ammonium perchlorate (TBAP), as supporting electrolyte. PDMS was ...
Stochastic optimal control theory: new applications to finance and insurance
Akdoğan, Emre; Yolcu Okur, Yeliz; Weber, Gerhard Wilhelm; Department of Financial Mathematics (2017)
In this study, the literature, recent developments and new achievements in stochastic optimal control theory are studied. Stochastic optimal control theory is an important direction of mathematical optimization for deriving control policies subject to timedependent processes whose dynamics follow stochastic differential equations. In this study, this methodology is used to deal with those infinite-dimensional optimization programs for problems from finance and insurance that are indeed motivated by the real l...
Ablation modeling for high speed internal and external flows
Onay, Oğuz Kaan; Eyi, Sinan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2020)
In this thesis study, the ablation of graphitic materials is modeled and two different analysis tools are developed. In the first model, the computations are conducted with a decoupled approach. Secondly, a more generalized calculation method is introduced via coupling the flow field and solid conduction analysis codes. In the modeling studies, both the gas and solid domains are assumed to be axisymmetric and the physical domains are discretized with structured finite volume cells. For the flow field analys...
Microwave initiated polymerization of trihalophenyleneoxide and aniline
Levent, Fulya; Kısakürek, Duygu; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2011)
The aim of the study is to synthesize poly(dibromophenyleneoxide) and polyaniline separately applying different microwave energies (90-900 watt), water amounts (1-5 ml) and time intervals (2-10 min) and investigate the effects of these parameters on the percent conversion of the polymers. The synthesis of poly(dibromophenyleneoxide) (P), radical ion polymer (RIP) and crosslinked polymer (CLP) were achieved by using tribromophenol (TBP) and Ca(OH)2 via microwave energy in a very short time interval. P and RI...
Temporal variations and sources of organic pollutants in two urban atmopsheres: Ankara and Ottawa
Oğuz Kuntasal, Öznur; Tuncel, Süleyman Gürdal; Department of Environmental Engineering (2005)
This study aimed at providing a thorough understanding of temporal and spatial variations of VOCs and underlying factors in different microenvironments in two different urban atmospheres, with different degrees of regulatory enforcement. The VOC data were collected in field campaigns conducted in Ankara, Turkey, and Ottawa, Canada over the years 2000-2004. Insight into the sources of VOCs in different urban atmospheres was sought by using three commonly used receptor models namely; Positive Matrix Factoriza...
