Certain alteration minerals are used to identify the hydrothermally altered rocks. Potassic, phyllic (sericitic), propylitic, argillic and silicification are main alteration types observed in volcanic rocks. The role of remote sensing in alteration mapping is the differentiation of the minerals that are unique for In this study, Landsat TM 5 images are used. General alteration trend in the area is mapped by conventional methods of color composite, band rationing, principal component analysis and multi-linear regression analysis. Detailed mineral mapping carried on by using the United States Geological Survey (USGS) spectral library data. Spectral reflectances of selected minerals are analyzed according to the TM band intervals and appropriate band ratios are selected. TM bands 1,2,3,4,5 and 7 are used. Outputs of mineral maps are investigated for zonal distribution. Mineral maps that are obtained by the mineral separation method reveal that the youngest volcanic complex Hasanda ̧is poorly altered. Instead, Kei̇boyduran, Melendiz and Tepeky̲ volcanic complexes are found to be highly altered with the pattern of clay dominant in the center and increasing oxidation towards flanks. Also the alteration along the previously mapped buried faults is a proof that the method can provide information about the alteration source. Read less

Electroacoustic measurements of mixed quartz and iron oxide mineral systems
Klein, B; Altun, Naci Emre; Colebrook, M; Pawlik, M (2012-07-18)
Surface behavior of the commonly found minerals in nickel laterite ores - quartz, magnetite, hematite and goethite was investigated using electroacoustic measurements. The goal was to assess the surface potentials as single minerals and in mixed systems to understand possible interactions between particles in laterite slurries. Surface potentials were evaluated according to the electroacoustic theory with the understanding that a direct relationship existed between zeta potential and electroacoustic sonic a...
Washability and Thermal Properties of Oltutaşı Wastes
Bawani, Muhammad Raheel; Arol, Ali İhsan; Tozsin, Gülşen; Akbulak, Bora; Torun, Abdülvahit (null; 2019-11-02)
Oltutaşı (Jet Stone), also known as black amber, is a fossilized, organic and natural material formed as a result of the transformation of certain trees under high pressure. It is called Oltutaşı because its occurrences are mostly located in the Oltu district of Erzurum. Generally, it is mined by small miners from nearby villages using rather primitive methods. After a rough sorting at the mine site, Oltutaşı is mostly used in the manufacturing of worry beads (tespih) and to a lesser extent, certain ornamen...
Flotation Characteristics Of Minerals In Feldspar Ores
Özün, Savaş; Özün, Savaş; Department of Mining Engineering (2012)
Albite (Na-feldspar) and orthoclase (K-feldspar) are the major feldspar minerals used in the production of glass and ceramics. They are found together with impurities like biotite, muscovite, quartz and rutile which are not desired for ceramics and glass industries. Therefore, these have to be removed to make the ore available for industrial use. In order to shed light on the actual feldspar ores, in this study; the flotation characteristics of albite, biotite, muscovite, orthoclase, quartz and rutile were ...
