We discuss the practical issues in modeling federation architectures in the case of Naval Surface Tactical Maneuvering Simulation System (NSTMSS), an HLA-based distributed interactive simulation system. We model the architecture of NSTMSS conforming to the Federation Architecture Metamodel (FAMM). FAMM provides a formalized language to specify the communication behaviors of federates along with their object models. Federate behavior specification is based on Live Sequence Charts. A federation architecture model conforming to FAMM is amenable to automated processing. In particular, it serves as a source for federate application base code generation.

Coordinate systems for a naval virtual environment
Kılıç, Aslı; Oğuztüzün, Mehmet Halit S.; Department of Computer Engineering (2005)
The purpose of this thesis is implementing World Geodetic System (WGS) for Naval Surface Tactical Maneuvering Simulation System (NSTMSS), a High Level Architecture (HLA) based naval simulation, and also implementing body coordinate system for the ships of NSTMSS and its combination with WGS so that NSTMSS can be more accurate, and new ship dynamics models can be integrated to the NSTMSS environment more easily. To improve the coordinate system of NSTMSS these methods were used; World Geodetic System - 1984 ...
Dynamic model integration and 3d graphical interface for a virtual ship
Çalargün, Canku Alp; Oğuztüzün, Mehmet Halit S.; Department of Computer Engineering (2008)
This thesis addresses the improvement of a physically based modeling simulator Naval Surface Tactical Maneuvering Simulation System (NSTMSS), that combines different simulators in a distributed environment by the help of High Level Architecture (HLA), to be used in naval tactical training systems. The objective is to upgrade a computer simulation program in which physical models are improved in order to achieve a more realistic movement of a ship in a virtual environment. The simulator will also be able to ...
Adapting Functional Mockup Units for HLA-compliant Distributed Simulation
YILMAZ, Faruk; DURAK, Umut; TAYLAN, Koray; Oğuztüzün, Mehmet Halit S. (2014-03-12)
Conceptual design of systems requires aggregate level simulations of the designed system in its operational setting. By this way; performance of the system and its interactions with the other entities in its environment can be evaluated. The complex nature of these simulations often requires distributed execution. IEEE 1516 High Level Architecture (HLA) is a widely accepted standard architecture for distributed aggregate level simulations. Functional Mock-up Interface (FMI) is a recent standardization effor...
Nonlinear modeling and flight control system design of an unmanned aerial vehicle
Karakaş, Deniz; Balkan, Raif Tuna; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2007)
The nonlinear simulation model of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in MATLAB®/Simulink® environment is developed by taking into consideration all the possible major system components such as actuators, gravity, engine, atmosphere, wind-turbulence models, as well as the aerodynamics components in the 6 DOF equations of motion. Trim and linearization of the developed nonlinear model are accomplished and various related analyses are carried out. The model is validated by comparing with a similar UAV data in te...
Developing an HLA-based naval maneuvering simulation
Topcu, O; Oğuztüzün, Mehmet Halit S. (Wiley, 2005-12-01)
This paper discusses the main issues involved in developing a high level architecture (HLA)-based distributed simulation while presenting an application called Naval Surface Tactical Maneuvering Simulation System (NSTMSS), which is intended to serve as a testbed for HLA and distributed interactive simulation (DIS) research. NSTMSS provides a networked virtual environment (NVE) for naval surface actions in which new formations can be evaluated and tested and present ones can be practiced and analyzed. This p...
