Evaluating the Relation Between Station Area Design Parameters and Transit Usage for Urban Rail Systems in Ankara, Turkey
Ozgur-Cevher, Ozge; Altintasi, Oruc; Tüydeş Yaman, Hediye (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2020-08-01)
Urban rail transit (URT) systems are particularly favoured by planners due to their potential in attracting car users. However, a URT investment must be complemented by land-use characteristics at macroscale (whole city) and design parameters at microscale (vicinity of the station). Despite the common referencing to key concepts (i.e. density, diversity and connectivity), the variability in their definitions and scales causes ambiguity in the determination of their quantified impact on URT ridership. Furthe...
Modeling the impact of climate variability on Black Sea anchovy recruitment and production
Güraslan, Ceren; Fach Salihoğlu, Bettina Andrea; Oğuz, Temel (2014-09-01)
The connection of climate variability with anchovy spawning and recruitment in the Black Sea in particular, and other ecosystems in general, was studied using a two-way coupled lower trophic level and anchovy bioenergetics model. Climate variability was represented by a 50-yr time series of daily temperature and vertical mixing rates with stochastic variations. Temperature was found to be the dominant factor influencing early life stages and hence population dynamics of Black Sea anchovy as marked by a high...
Modeling the effect of SCR denox unit on diesel engine performance
Pelen, Pelsu; Kazanç Özerinç, Feyza; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2020)
The design of the internal combustion engines and the aftertreatment systems cannot be considered independently since imposing an aftertreatment equipment into the exhaust system brings extra backpressure which in turn decreases the engine efficiency and increases the fuel consumption and CO2 emission. In the present study, the existing 3D monolith reactor model in COMSOL Multiphysics® applications is modified to account for an SCR deNOx unit having 600 cpsi cell density by using exhaust mass flow rate and ...
