Composite plating is commonly used for reducing friction and wear. It is a method that can be used in the environments exposed to friction such as rocket launchers. Steel specimens were coated by nickel including MoS2 particles in this study. The effects of MoS2 particle concentration and particle size on the coefficient of friction and the amount of wear were determined by pin on disc tribometer. It is revealed that the particles with small size and high concentration are more effective in decreasing the friction coefficient.

Production and development of aluminide coatings by chemical vapor deposition on nickel based superalloys for turbine engine applications
Ertürk, Umutcan; İmer, Muhsine Bilge; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2017)
Diffusion coatings including aluminide coatings are utilized to improve the high temperature oxidation and corrosion resistance of turbine blades. Through the advancement in the aluminizing methods, higher purity and more homogeneously distributed coatings have been realized. The chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is the most advanced technique utilized for aluminizing process. The versatility of CVD provides a large possibility to control process variables such as temperature, pressure, gas flows and ratios, ...
Behavior of CFRP confined concrete specimens under temperature cycles and sustained loads
Erdil, Barış; Akyüz, Uğurhan; Yaman, İsmail Özgür; Department of Civil Engineering (2012)
The application of carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) is one of the effective retrofitting and strengthening methods that is used worldwide and is starting to be used in Turkey as well because they have high strength and high modulus in the fiber direction, have very low coefficient of thermal expansion when compared to concrete and steel and are known not to corrode. Since FRPs are lightweight, their mass can be neglected when compared to concrete and steel. However, before proposing this material as ...
Electrochemical formation of Al-Sc alloy in molten salt
Polat, Çağlar; Karakaya, İshak; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2019)
Al-Sc alloys have better mechanical properties in comparison to commercial aluminum alloys. The aim was to produce Al-Sc alloys containing at least 2wt % scandium by electrochemical reduction of the byproducts such as ScF3 or the alternative compounds obtained from hydrometallurgical processing of low grade lateritic nickel in this thesis. Electrochemical production of Al-Sc alloy in pure molten CaCl2 and CaCl2-NaCl mixtures was studied for this purpose. The graphite-liquid aluminum-CaCl2 or CaCl2-NaCl inte...
Impact modified polystyrene based nanocomposites
Yeniova, Canan Esma; Yılmazer, Ülkü; Department of Chemical Engineering (2009)
Polystyrene, PS, is a preferable polymer in industry, but, its brittle characteristic restricts its utilization. The aim of this study is to improve the impact strength of PS by the help of elastomeric materials SEBS-g-MA and E-BA-GMA. In order to prevent the reduction in the tensile strength of the materials, three different types of organic montmorillonites, MMT, (Cloisite® 30B, 25A and 15A) were used as fillers. Nanocomposite preparation was performed in a co-rotating twin screw extruder. Initially elast...
