This paper is based on a nation wide research project carried out with the aim of investigating diggability, drillability and blastability of overburden strata in many producing surface coal mines in Tuerkiye. It reports data on blasting practice derived from various case studies. Correlation of powder factors used for overburden preparation with physical properties of many different types of rock masses were investigated. The correlations observed between powder factor and uniaxial compressive strength, te...
CORRELATION OF ROCK PROPERTIES AND CUTTING RESISTANCES IN ASSESSMENT OF DIGGABILITY WITH BUCKET-WHEEL EXCAVATORS
BOLUKBASI, N; KONCAGUL, O; PASAMEHMETOGLU, AG (1991-09-01)
A study has been undertaken to establish relationships between the O&K wedge test cutting resistances, F(A), F(L) and F(LS), and the geotechnical parameters of rock materials in the context of bucket-wheel excavator operation. Prediction equations were formed to estimate the cutting resistance from the geotechnical parameters by multiple regression analysis and the cone indenter index, uniaxial compressive strength and Shore hardness parameters have been found to be the most significant predictors.

Correlation between the viscoelastic properties and cracking potential of engineered cementitious composites
KESKİN, SÜLEYMAN BAHADIR; ŞAHMARAN, MUSTAFA; Yaman, İsmail Özgür; Lachemi, Mohamed (2014-11-30)
Although Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) offer a number of advantages over ordinary and fiber reinforced concrete in many respects, it is not cost-effective to build a whole structure with ECC, currently. Thus, ECC can potentially be used in repair systems or in bi-material systems which require it to be used together with a dimensionally stable material. High shrinkage, together with the restraining effect brings about cracking a critical phenomenon for ECC. In this study, along with the mechanica...
CORRELATION OF MICROSTRUCTURE AND FAILURE INITIATING SITES IN AN AISI M2 HIGH-SPEED STEEL USING VICKERS INDENTATION
Ögel, Bilgehan (1990-01-01)
In this study, the relation of crack initiation and propagation to microstructure was shown in an AISI M2 high-speed steel using Vickers hardness indentation. Observations were carried out on the cracks generated from the corners of the square pyramid indentation in both the as-quenched, the quenched and tempered specimens. It is shown that cracks are nucleated from the corners of the indentation by either cleavage of the carbide or by decohesion between the carbide and the matrix, depending on the size o...
