The aim of the study was to examine whether prepatory information before surgery was effective on adaptation to surgery process. The sample consisted of sixty children. Children were randomly divided into four groups. "Information group" was informed about the surgery process. "Information with mother group" was informed about the surgery procedure together with their mothers. "Interview group" did not receive any information, however, they were only interviewed on hospital environment and their hobbies or sphere of interests. And the "control group" received no treatment before the surgery. Data was collected utilizing the state form of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAI-C), Attitudes Toward Hospital and Health Professionals Scale, and Ways of Coping Inventory for Children (KID-COPE). The results of the present study demonstrated that compared to the control group children, all treatment groups were adaptive in terms of decreasing post intervention and post operation anxiety levels of children and there were no significant differences between treatment groups, namely, information, information with mother and interview. Groups did not significantly differ in terms of their attitudes toward the hospital and health professionals. However, in terms of coping strategies, children who were informed alone or with their mothers reported more "positive coping" and less "blame & anger" and "avoidance" compared to other groups. Results were discussed within the context of relevant literature.

Aims: The purpose of the study was to establish whether the patients presenting with abdominal pain should undergo to contrast enhanced CT (Computed tomography). For this purpose, we have investigated the possible relationship between CRP (C-reactive protein),WBC (White blood cell), neutrophil levels and the presence of pathological findings determined on abdominal pelvic CT images.
Predicting bone remodeling around tissue- and bone-level dental implants used in reduced bone width
Eser, Atilim; Tönük, Ergin; Akça, Kıvanç; Dard, Michel M.; Cehreli, Murat Cavit (Elsevier BV, 2013-09-03)
The objective of this study was to predict time-dependent bone remodeling around tissue- and bone-level dental implants used in patients with reduced bone width. The remodeling of bone around titanium tissue-level, and titanium and titanium-zirconium alloy bone-level implants was studied under 100 N oblique load for one month by implementing the Stanford theory into three-dimensional finite element models. Maximum principal stress, minimum principal stress, and strain energy density in pen-implant bone and ...

The aim of this study was to obtain a biocompatible and antimicrobial implant surface by coating Ti6Al4V with chitosan which can be used to create a smooth transmucosal region for a faster and better wound healing and an increased bioactivity. Ti6Al4V plates were first abraded and ultrasonically cleaned and then coated with chitosan. In order to simulate the conditions of an oral environment, a group of coated plates were treated in a thermocycle apparatus. The coatings were evaluated with SEM, EDS, XRD and...
Automatic segmentation of human facial tissue by MRI-CT fusion: A feasibility study
Kale, Emre H.; Mumcuoğlu, Ünal Erkan; HAMCAN, Salih (2012-12-01)
The aim of this study was to develop automatic image segmentation methods to segment human facial tissue which contains very thin anatomic structures. The segmentation output can be used to construct a more realistic human face model for a variety of purposes like surgery planning, patient specific prosthesis design and facial expression simulation. Segmentation methods developed were based on Bayesian and Level Set frameworks, which were applied on three image types: magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), compu...
The association between organizational culture and individual factors on medical practice
Saraç, Çakıl; Lajunen, Timo; Department of Psychology (2007)
The aim of the present research was to investigate the relationships between patient safety culture within hospitals and individual factors on medical practice among physicians. A total of 240 physicians from ten different hospitals completed the Medical Practice Questionnaire, Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture, Maslach Burnout Inventory and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire Revised- Abbreviated Form. In order to assess frequency and types of medical errors, Medical Practice Questionnaire was develo...
