A new continuum approach to the coupling of shear yielding and crazing with fracture in glassy polymers
SCHANZEL, Lisa; Dal, Hüsnü; Miehe, Christian (2012-03-30)
Over the past decades, several constitutive models accounting for finite viscoplasticity and failure in glassy polymers were developed. However, depending on thermal and loading rate conditions, the response might change from ductile to brittle. This brittle response is characterized by inelastically deformed zones, so‐called crazes, having the thickness of micrometers and spanning at some fractions of a millimeter, containing a dense array of fibrils interspersed with elongated voids, detailed discussion e...
A new likelihood approach to autonomous multiple model estimation
Söken, Halil Ersin (Elsevier BV, 2020-04-01)
This paper presents an autonomous multiple model (AMM) estimation algorithm for hybrid systems with sudden changes in their parameters. Estimates of Kalman filters (KFs) that are tuned and employed for different system modes are merged based on a newly defined likelihood function without any necessity for filter interaction. The proposed likelihood function is composed of two measures, the filter agility measure and the steady-state error measure. These measures are derived based on filter adaptation rules....
A new approach in assessing slurry filterability
Yukseler, Hande; Tosun, İsmail; Yetiş, Ülkü (2007-10-15)
Up to date, sludge filterability has been characterized by the Ruth's classical filtration theory and quantified by the well-known parameter specific cake resistance (SCR). However, the complexity of the actual phenomenon is clearly underestimated by the classical filtration theory and SCR is often not satisfactory in describing filterability. Although many scientific studies were conducted for a better analysis and understanding of the filtration theory, still a practically applicable solution to replace t...
A new technique for rapid measurement of continuous soil moisture characteristic curves
Toker, Nabi Kartal; Sjoblom, K.J.; Culligan, P.J. (2004-01-01)
The soil moisture characteristic (SMC) curve of a soil describes the relationship between the soil suction (tension in the soil pore water) and its water content. The majority of traditional methods used to obtain SMC curves involve gathering individual point measurements of soil water content over a range of applied soil suctions, and then fitting a curve through these points. Each point measurement requires at least a day of testing to gather, leading to a total testing time of weeks to assemble the whole...
A New approach for distributed amplifier design
Yılmaz, İsmail Gökhan; Koç, Seyit Sencer; Demir, Şimşek; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2012)
In this thesis work, a new distributed amplifier topology is discussed and applied to three different cases. The topology is based on dividing the frequency spectrum into channels and amplifying afterwards. The channelized and amplified signals are then combined at the output for broadband amplification. This topology is used in the design of a three channel 0.1-1 GHz amplifier with a gain of 14.5±0.6 dB. The design is fabricated, and then the measured and simulated results are compared. A second 0.1-1 GHz ...
