The opportunity of decreasing gold losses by using a centrifugal gravity concentrator as a scavenger on flotation tailings was evaluated. The tailings of the Cu-flotation circuit of the Nyrstar's Myra Falls Mine at Vancouver Island, Canada, were used for the tests. A Knelson CVD6 was retrofitted on Cu-rougher tailing and Cu-cleaner tailing streams during normal operation to recover misplaced liberated gold entities as well as gold bearing middlings. The analysis and comparison of gold, silver, copper, lead and iron grades showed that gold existed mainly in the form of electrum in the Cu-rougher tailings. In addition to electrum, associations with lead and iron were detected in the Cu-cleaner tailings. For both applications the CVD was capable of scavenging gold from the flotation tailings to a higher grade than the feed. CVD application was promising on both streams with the Cu-cleaner tailings being more susceptible to Au recovery by CVD. Overall CVD implementation proved to be useful in reducing the loss of Au values, as well as providing the flexibility to select between grade targeted or recovery targeted options for the additional Au recovery.

Use of centrifugal-gravity concentration for rejection of talc and recovery improvement in base-metal flotation
Klein, Bern; Altun, Naci Emre; Ghaffari, Hassan (2016-08-01)
The possibility of using a centrifugal-gravity concentrator to reject Mg-bearing minerals and minimize metal losses in the flotation of base metals was evaluated. Sample characterization, batch scoping tests, pilot-scale tests, and regrind-flotation tests were conducted on a Ni flotation tailings stream. Batch tests revealed that the Mg grade decreased dramatically in the concentrate products. Pilot-scale testing of a continuous centrifugal concentrator (Knelson CVD6) on the flotation tailings revealed that...
Investigation of the effect of shearing rate on residual strength of high plastic clay
Akis, Ebru; Mekael, Ahmad; Yılmaz, Mustafa Tolga (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2020-01-09)
The residual shear strength on failure plane is a crucial parameter to be estimated for analysis of an active landslide. This strength must be determined precisely to build a reliable theoretical model for calculations. The multi-reversal direct-shear test is a practical method to determine this shear strength in laboratory due to wider availability of apparatus. The shearing rate is among the factors that significantly affect the precision of test results for clay specimens. However, limits for this rate a...
Measurement of the jet radius and transverse momentum dependence of inclusive jet suppression in lead-lead collisions at root S-NN=2.76 TeV with the ATLAS detector
Aad, G.; et. al. (Elsevier BV, 2013-02-26)
Measurements of inclusive jet suppression in heavy ion collisions at the LHC provide direct sensitivity to the physics of jet quenching. In a sample of lead-lead collisions at root S-NN = 2.76 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 7 mu b(-1), ATLAS has measured jets with a calorimeter system over the pseudorapidity interval vertical bar eta vertical bar < 2.1 and over the transverse momentum range 38 < pT <210 GeV. Jets were reconstructed using the anti-k(t) algorithm with values fo...
Comparison of different methods on the enrichment of Konya Inlice epithermal gold ores
Döğme, Ayşe Nur (2020-01-01)
In this study, firstly, enrichment experiments were carried out on the epithermal gold ore belonging to the Konya-Inlice region containing 2.38 ppm Au-containing oxide type ore and 1.39 ppm Au-containing sulfur ore with using Falcon device as a gravity enrichment method. In these group experiments, the effects of parameters such as centrifugal force, bowl type effect, and a solid ration of feeding were investigated. As the second enrichment method, the conventional flotation technique was applied. In these ...
Study of wave impact loads on components of stilling wave basin on a vertical seawall
Altunbaş, Mustafa Gökay; Özyurt Tarakcıoğlu, Gülizar; Kısacık, Doğan; Department of Civil Engineering (2022-8-24)
In this study, the wave pressure on components of Stilling Wave Basin (SWB) is investigated by analyzing the physical model experiment data of wave pressures for various hydrodynamic conditions. SWB is a structure that can be used for optimizing the crest height to achieve lower overtopping conditions especially in urban areas. The experiments are based on assessing the performance of SWB on a vertical seawall for which limited research exists. Wave pressure data on the seaward storm walls (both rows) and t...
