Modeling and investigation of fault ride through capability of variable speed wind turbines
Koç, Erkan; Güven, Ali Nezih; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2010)
Technological improvements on wind energy systems with governmental supports have increased the penetration level of wind power into the grid in recent years. The high level of penetration forces the wind turbines stay connected to the grid during the disturbances in order to enhance system stability. Moreover, power system operators must revise their grid codes in parallel with these developments. This work is devoted to the modeling of variable speed wind turbines and the investigation of fault ride troug...
Analytical Modelling, Simulation and Comparative Study of Multi-Junction Solar Cells Efficiency
Hadjdida, Abdelkader; Bourahla, Mohamed; Ertan, Hulusi Bülent; Bekhti, Mohamed (2018-12-01)
Currently, solar energy is promising the primary source of renewable energy that has a great potential to generate power for an extremely low operating cost when compared to already existing power generation technologies. Increasing the efficiency of solar cells is a major goal and the prominent factor in photovoltaic system research. Current triple junction solar cells reach 30% and the next generation will bring 35% in 5 years to peak at 40%. These cells are used in space environment and in terrestrial sy...
Improving the energy conversion stability of hybrid solar photovoltaic / wind turbine renewable energy systems
Aşçıoğlu, Berk; Batunlu, Canraş; Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2019-8)
In the last few years, renewable energy sources such as wind turbines, photovoltaics, hydropower stations etc. have become widespread because of raising energy needs of the world. Since the fossil fuel consumption excessively has increased, lack of energy has caused the renewable energy requirement. Furthermore, renewable energy has an important role because of the economic and environmental worries. In other words, industrial and inhabitant needs by provided the traditional energy is no longer a successful...
Coupled aerodynamic and hydrodynamic analyses of upscaled floating offshore wind turbines
Juanda Putra, Muhammad; Oğuz, Elif; Sezer Uzol, Nilay (2022-09-26)
As one of the widely used renewable energy sources, wind energy is expected to lead the energy market. A recent trend is to develop bigger wind turbines since upscaled wind turbines’ rotor size increases power production and reduces a significant amount of maintenance cost of a wind warm. Especially, due to the dimension of roads used in transportation of the turbine blades and components, there are strict limitations for design of onshore wind turbines. This study aims to investigate aerodynamic and hydrod...
Assessing the effects of wind farms on soil organic carbon.

Wind energy is considered one of the cleanest and most sustainable resources among renewable energy sources. However, several negative environmental impacts can be observed, unless suitable sites are selected for the establishment of wind farms. The aim of this study is to determine the change in the soil organic carbon (SOC) stock resulting from land cover changes that were caused by wind farm establishments in the Karaburun peninsula. Within the scope of the study, remote sensing and geographic informatio...
