The upper Coniacian to upper Santonian drowned Arabian carbonate platform, the Mardin-Mazidag area, SE Turkey: Sedimentological, stratigraphic, and ichthyofaunal records

A measured stratigraphic section including the upper Coniacian - upper Santonian interval in the Mardin-Mazidag area in Southeastern Turkey lies on the Arabian Platform and documents the drowning of the Arabian platform. The studied succession transgressively overlies the exposed carbonate platform and exhibits a relatively condensed sequence characterized by presence of fish remains, phosphate nodules, oncoids, phosphatic fragments, glauconites and planktonic foraminifera. Calcareous nanno-fossils attest a...
Bio-climatic architecture in libya: case studies from three climatic regions
Elwefati, Nahla Adel; Elias Özkan, Soofia Tahira; Department of Architecture (2007)
The aim of this study was to investigate the bio-climatic characteristics of traditional and contemporary residential architecture in three different climatic/geographical regions of Libya, which are represented by Tripoli in the “coastal region”; Gharyan in the “mountainous region”; and Ghadames in the “desert region”. It was undertaken to understand and evaluate the effects of building layout and orientation, wall thicknesses, ceiling height, construction materials, thermal mass and size of windows, on th...
Karya’daki Geç Antik Ve Bizans Dönemi Yapı Ve Yerleşimleri Üzerine Bazı Gözlemler
Serin, Ufuk (Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, 2013-6-1)
The present research, which is part of a larger, long-term project entitled the 'Archaeological Survey of the Gulf of Mandalya, Caria', aims to document and interpret the Late Antique and Byzantine monuments and topography of Caria (5th-13th c. AD) and covers the results of nine years of fieldwork (2003-2011). In antiquity the survey-area largely remained under the jurisdiction of Iasos (mod. Kiyikislacik) - the major extinct city in the area - giving its name to the entire territory. This work investigates...
Application of a three-dimensional numerical model to the idealized conditions of the bosphorus strait.
Sözer, Adil; Özsoy, Emin; Department of Marine Sciences (2002)
The Bosphorus Strait is a narrow and shallow channel between the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea which plays an important role in the Turkish Straits System connecting the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. The exchange flow through the Bosphorus Strait is principally determined by geometry and stratification, and exhibits a complex nonlinear response to forcing by the net water budget, pressure and wind setup effects in adjacent basins. This study aims for a better understanding of the behaviour of the ...
Post-late cretaceous rotational evolution of neotethyan sutures around Ankara region
Özkaptan, Murat; Kaymakcı, Nuretdin; Özacar, Atilla Arda; Department of Geological Engineering (2016)
The central Anatolia comprises various continental fragments belonging to Laurasia at the north and Gondwana at the south. These amalgamated continental fragments (micro continents) delineated by ophiolitic remnants of Tethyan oceanic lithosphere which were consumed due to ~N to S convergence. Around Haymana Basin the closure of the Neotethys Oceans lead to amalgamation of the Pontides (Laurasian affinity) in the north, Tauride and Kırşehir blocks (Gondwana affinity) in the south. The main purpose of this s...
