Geotechnical characterization of soils prone to rainfall-induced landslides in Rize (Northern Turkey)
Üyetürk, Celal Emre; Huvaj Sarıhan, Nejan; Department of Civil Engineering (2019)
Landslides are common type of natural hazards around the world. Every year, hundreds of landslides are induced by rainfall in Rize. These landslides are shallow failures, generally having a maximum depth of 5 m. Although many of these landslides are observed every year, there is limited data on characteristics of these soils in the literature. Characterizing these soils is of paramount importance for numerical modeling of the landslide mechanisms, for landslide susceptibility mapping and for establishing ra...
Geotechnical rock-mass evaluation of the Anamur dam site, Turkey
Ozsan, A; Karpuz, Celal (Elsevier BV, 1996-03-01)
This paper describes a feasibility-level geotechnical evaluation carried out at Anamur dam site, in terms of stability analysis of dam foundation, excavation slopes and a diversion tunnel. The proposed Anamur dam will be built across the Anamur river on the Alanya metamorphic series which consists of phyllite, schist and slate units at the site. Geotechnical investigations included drilling for core, pumping tests, sampling for laboratory testing, and a detailed discontinuity survey.
Geotechnical Investigations at two NPP Sites in Turkey
Karpuz, Celal (null; 1988-09-12)
The geotechnical investigations carried out at two different NPP sites are Part of the detailed site investigation program. It includes studies such as, assessment of rock mass conditions encountered at the two NPP sites and determination of geotechnical parameters by field investigations, determination of physical and mechanical properties of the basic rock types by laboratory tests, evaluation of the stability of foundations and pit slopes under design loading conditions by engineering analyses. Based on ...
Geotechnical assessment and engineering classification of the Antalya tufa rock, southern Turkey
Sopacı, Evrim; Akgün, Haluk (2015-10-30)
This study mineralogically and geotechnically assesses the Antalya tufa rock types, which are highly variable in nature. Geological observations, geotechnical site investigations, and in-situ and laboratory tests have been performed to determine the parameters (i.e., organic matter content, rock fabric, apparent porosity, unit weight, uniaxial compressive strength, Young's modulus, tensile strength, cohesion and angle of internal friction) that may have a significant influence on tufa rock behavior and to d...
Geotechnical Properties and Permeability of Compacted Clay in the Gölbaşı Region Ankara
Akgün, Haluk (null; 2016-04-06)
This study evaluated the geotechnical properties and permeability of compacted clayey foundation soils in the Gölbaşı region of Ankara to determine their suitability as a compacted landfill liner material. The results of the tests showed that the clay was suitable to be used as a compacted clay landfill liner material.
