Geotechnical Properties and Permeability of Compacted Clay in the Gölbaşı Region Ankara

2016-04-06
This study evaluated the geotechnical properties and permeability of compacted clayey foundation soils in the Gölbaşı region of Ankara to determine their suitability as a compacted landfill liner material. The results of the tests showed that the clay was suitable to be used as a compacted clay landfill liner material. Geotechnical evaluation of Ankara clay as a compacted clay liner
Met, Ilker; Akgün, Haluk (2015-08-01)
This study investigates the geotechnical properties, and mineralogical and permeability characteristics of "Ankara clay" to evaluate its suitability as a compacted clay landfill liner material. The geotechnical index properties of the clayey soil samples collected from the western part of Ankara were determined. All the soil samples were tested for permeability by means of falling head compaction permeameter apparatus. The mineralogy of the soil samples were examined by X-ray diffraction and scanning electr...
Composite landfill liner design with Ankara clay, Turkey
Met, İlker; Akgün, Haluk (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2005-04-01)
This study presents an overview of the geotechnical properties of the clayey soils, referred to as "Ankara clay", at two sites of the Ankara region in an attempt to design a landfill profile composed of a high density polyethylene (HDPE) geomembrane/clay composite liner through the Hydrologic Evaluation of Landfill Performance (HELP) model and the Water Balance Method. The geotechnical properties of the landfill layers along with the water balance factors (i.e., evapotranspiration, precipitation, temperatur...
Geotechnical Assessment of Compacted Sand Bentonite Mixtures to be Utilized in Underground Nuclear Waste Repositories and Barrier Design
Akgün, Haluk; Koçkar, Mustafa Kerem (2016-07-01)
This study assesses the mechanical and hydrological performance of compacted sand bentonite mixtures to be utilized in sealing underground nuclear waste repositories. In order to assess the performance of this material and to obtain an optimum sand bentonite mixture, a variety of laboratory tests, namely, compaction, falling head permeability, swelling, unconfined compression and shear strength tests were performed on sand bentonite mixtures possessing bentonite contents ranging from 5% to 15%. Sand bentoni...
Geotechnical rock-mass evaluation of the Anamur dam site, Turkey
Ozsan, A; Karpuz, Celal (Elsevier BV, 1996-03-01)
This paper describes a feasibility-level geotechnical evaluation carried out at Anamur dam site, in terms of stability analysis of dam foundation, excavation slopes and a diversion tunnel. The proposed Anamur dam will be built across the Anamur river on the Alanya metamorphic series which consists of phyllite, schist and slate units at the site. Geotechnical investigations included drilling for core, pumping tests, sampling for laboratory testing, and a detailed discontinuity survey.
Utilization of Ankara Clay for Sanitary Landfill Bottom Liners Turkey
Akgün, Haluk (2005-01-01)
This study aims at determining the geotechnical properties and the compaction permeability characteristics of a clayey soil sample obtained from the Göbaşi site of the Ankara region in an attempt to assess its suitability as a compacted clay liner. The soil sample was permeability tested at about 3% wet of its optimum moisture content using the falling head compaction permeameter apparatus. The expected leakage rates through clay-only and composite geomem-brane-clay liners constructed with compacted Ankara ...
