GEZI PARK PROTESTS FROM A BADIOUAN PERSPECTIVE AND ITS EFFECTS ON THE POLITICAL SUBJECTIVIZATION OF LGBTIQ+ PEOPLE
Yok, Kıvılcım Kardelen; Birler, Reşide Ömür; Department of Political Science and Public Administration (2022-2)
This thesis investigates the possibility of interpreting the Gezi Park protests, that took place in 2013 and which was one of the most important resistances in Turkish political history, through the lens of contemporary French philosopher Alain Badiou and his theory of event to the evaluate its effects on the political subjectivization of LGBTIQ+ people. It provides the demonstration of the history of transnational LGBTIQ+ movement alongside the history of the LGBTIQ+ movement in Turkey. To interpret the Ge...
STABILITY AND FAILURE ANALYSIS OF EXCAVATIONS USED FOR UNDERGROUND MINING OF BATI RAMAN OIL FIELD
Emci, Mehmet Emircan; Öztürk, Hasan; Department of Mining Engineering (2021-11-8)
Batı Raman holds the Turkey's proven largest oil reserve (1.85 billion barrels). The reserve is located at an average depth of 1450 m within a fractured limestone. This heavy oil has a 12° API gravity and a viscosity of 200-2000 cp. A future plan for this reserve is to use a "mining assisted heavy oil production" method. The idea behind this method is to reach the reserve by a decline from the surface and continue opening up galleries beneath the reserve from which fan shape up holes will be drilled in the ...

PREPARATION OF PEDESTRIAN EVACUATION TIME MAPS FOR SOUTHERN COASTS OF BODRUM PENINSULA, TURKEY
Çelikbaş, Büşra; Süzen, Mehmet Lütfi; Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet; Department of Geological Engineering (2022-1-28)
Historical records reveal that Turkey coasts faced with a considerable number of tsunamis in its past. Although the tsunamis in the seas surrounding Turkey are not as catastrophic as the ones in Pacific Ocean, still they may cause substantial damage to the highly populated touristic coastal places. Eastern Mediterranean Sea and Aegean Sea are in the seismically active region of Turkey. Therefore, numerous earthquakes and associated tsunamis are threatening the western coasts of Turkey. Recently, two importa...
OPTIMUM PLACEMENT AND COST-BENEFIT ANALYSIS OF BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS
Hökelek, İsmail Harun; Güven, Ali Nezih; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2022-2-07)
There are many challenges associated with the integration of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) into the power system. Some of these challenges are determining the sizing of BESS and finding the optimum placement of these devices in the grid. The primary motivation of this study is to handle the placement and sizing problem of BESS. In the vast majority of studies, the optimum BESS locations have been found by calculating loss sensitivity factor (LSF) under peak load conditions. However, this approach wi...
