Evaluation of symbiotic effectiveness of various Rhizobium cicer strains
İçgen, Bülent; Özcengiz, Gülay (Elsevier BV, 2002-07-01)
Five local and seven standard strains of Rhizobium cicer were compared in terms of their efficiency in increasing the nitrogen content of the chickpea. Shoot dry weight, nodule number, nodule dry weight, protein and total nitrogen contents were taken as the parameters of plant productivity. Different combinations of the strains that were found to be promising (385, 620, Y-29 and 3379) were next employed. The maximum increase in total nitrogen content was only 3.5-fold in single infection whereas an increase...
Evaluation of salt tolerance in sto transformed Arabidopsis thaliana and Nicotiana tabacum plants
Selçuk, Feyza; Yücel, Ayşe Meral; Department of Biology (2004)
Salinity is one of the limiting factors of crop development. Together with causing water loss from plant tissues, salinity also leads to ion toxicity. Under salt stress, increase in Ca+2 concentration in cytosol can decrease the deleterious effects of stress. The binding of Ca+2 to calmodulin initiates a signaling cascade involving the activation of certain transcription factors like STO and STZ. This signal transduction pathway regulates transport of proteins that control net Na+ influx across the plasma m...
Evaluation of the Protective Effects of Quercetin, Rutin, Naringenin, Resveratrol and Trolox Against Idarubicin-Induced DNA Damage
Çelik, Haydar; Arinç, Emel (University of Alberta Libraries, 2010-7-22)
PURPOSE. Idarubicin is a synthetic anthracycline anticancer drug widely used in the treatment of some hematological malignancies. The studies in our laboratory have clearly demonstrated that idarubicin can undergo reductive bioactivation by NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase to free radicals with resulting formation of DNA strand breaks, which can potentially contribute to its genotoxic effects [Çelik, H., Arinç, E., Bioreduction of idarubicin and formation of ROS responsible for DNA cleavage by NADPH-...
Evaluation of SeaWiFS chlorophyll-a in the Black and Mediterranean seas
Sancak, S; Besiktepe, ST; Yılmaz, Ayşen; Lee, M; Frouin, R (Informa UK Limited, 2005-05-20)
The performance of NASA's OC2 and OC4 algorithms to estimate chlorophyll-a concentrations from SeaWiFS radiometric measurements on the global scale was tested in two contrasted bio-optical environments, the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. The in situ bio-optical measurements were made during October 1999 at 25 stations. Comparisons of the in situ measurements with the concurrent SeaWiFS retrievals indicate that the OC2 and OC4 algorithms are not working satisfactorily in both seas. Case 2 waters domina...
