Boron trifluoride mediated Prins reaction of methylene diacetate with styrenes. One-pot synthesis of 3-chloro-3-arylpropanols
İŞLEYEN, ALPER; Doğan, Özdemir (Georg Thieme Verlag KG, 2006-05-03)
A one-pot procedure was developed for the synthesis of 3-chloro-3-arylpropanols, which are important starting materials for the synthesis of biologically active benzanilide derivatives. Styrenes were reacted with methylene diacetate in the presence of boron trifluoride to give the corresponding 3-chloro-3-arylpropanols in 36-84% yield by the Prins reaction. A strongly electron-donating methoxy substituent at either the ortho or para position of the styrene did not give the expected 3-chloro-3-arylpropanols ...
Boron Oxide Production Kinetics Using Boric Acid as Raw Material
BALCI, FATMA SUNA; Sezgi, Naime Aslı; Eren, Esin (2012-08-29)
Boron oxide with a content of 99.93 wt.% from the dehydration of boric acid was synthesized. Conversion of boric acid to boron oxide was completed within 3 days at low temperature range (T < 130 degrees C) and approximately 30 min at high temperature range (T > 130 degrees C) for the isothermal dehydration reaction in the temperature range of 80 and 350 degrees C. Apparent activation energies were 65 and 28 kJ.mol(-1) for low and high temperature ranges, respectively. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) result...
Boron determination in body fluids by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry
Bora, Selin; Ataman, Osman Yavuz; Department of Chemistry (2010)
Boron element plays an important role for our country since approximately 70% of the world’s reserves are in Turkey. It is widely used in different areas of industry. Besides being vital for the plants, it is important also for human health. It has been shown that high boron exposure does not affect fertility negatively and also with an increasing boron exposure, risk of prostate and cervical cancers decreases. There are different opinions regarding health effects of boron. There are both positive and negat...
Borophosphates: Hydrothermal and microwave-assisted synthesis of Na-5[B2P3O13]
Hauf, C; Yılmaz, Ayşen; Kizilyalli, M; Kniep, R (Elsevier BV, 1998-10-01)
Na-5[B2P3O13] was first prepared by high temperature synthesis (T-max = 780 degrees C) and was characterized by X-ray single crystal investigations recently. We have now succeeded in the hydrothermal synthesis of the compound and obtained single-phase products at 150 degrees C after 1-2 days. A microwave-assisted synthesis takes only 2 min to transform a solid mixture of berate and phosphate hydrates into the crystalline title compound. Pure Na-5[B2P3O13] melts at 747 degrees C and solidifies during cooling...
Boron removal from aqueous solutions via polymer enhanced ultrafiltration using novel Imino-bis-propane diol functional polymers
Zerze, Hasan; Özbelge, H. Önder; Yılmaz, Levent; Department of Chemical Engineering (2012)
In this work, newly synthesized poly (vinyl amino-N, N’-bis-propane diol) (GPVA) and copolymer, poly (vinyl amino-N, N’-bis-propane diol-co-DADMAC) (GPVA-co-DADMAC) were efficiently exploited for boron removal via polymer enhanced ultrafiltration (PEUF). Boron concentration could be reduced from 10ppm down to 0.4ppm using GPVA whereas it could be reduced from 10ppm down to 0.8ppm with copolymer GPVA-co-DADMAC at pH 9 and loading (boron-to-polymer mass ratio) 0.001 via continuous polymer enhanced ultrafiltra...
