Probabilistic Forecasting of Multiple Time Series with Single Recurrent Neural Network
TOPALLAR, SARP TUĞBERK; Yozgatlıgil, Ceylan; Department of Scientific Computing (2022-9-20)
Time series forecasting can be summarized as predicting the future values of a sequence indexed by timestamps based on the past records of that sequence. Optimal or near-optimal resource allocation requires accurate predictions into the future. The study presents investigation performed on both classical methods and more contemporary methods from the literature. The classical methods studied are Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA), Exponential Smoothing (ETS) and Seasonal-Trend decomposition us...
Probabilistic estimation framework on short term electricity load forecasting via parametric and nonparametric approaches
Ergin, Elçin; İyigün, Cem; Department of Industrial Engineering (2014)
Accurate electricity load forecasting plays a crucial role for all the electricity market parties. With the deregulation of the markets, electricity load forecasting, especially for short-term, gained a great importance. Electricity load data may show different characteristics according to country, region or customer type as it has a nonlinear relationships with many of variables. Capabilities of only one model may not be enough to capture all these relationships. In this study, parametric, nonparametric an...
Probabilistic performance prediction modeling for bridges considering maintenance effects within a combined computation, visualization and programming environment
Akgül, Ferhat (2010-07-15)
Various models have been developed in recent past for lifetime performance prediction of bridges. Studies for developing new theoretical models and improvement of the existing ones are part of ongoing research in bridge deterioration and management. However, improvement of such theoretical models so that they can be practically implemented in bridge management systems is a challenging task. In order to achieve such task, newly developed models must be tested and further improved to achieve practicality. Lif...
Probabilistic Slope Stability Analyses Using Limit Equilibrium and Finite Element Methods
Akbas, Burak; Huvaj Sarıhan, Nejan (2015-10-16)
This paper compares the results of different probabilistic approaches and emphasizes the necessity of probabilistic analyses in slope stability studies. To do that, Limit Equilibrium Method (LEM) and Finite Element Method (FEM) are utilized and their outputs are compared in terms of probability of failure (PF), reliability index (RI), factor of safety (FS) and the failure surface. Lastly, concept of Random Finite Element Method (RFEM) is studied and effects of spatial correlation distance are investigated.
Probabilistic methods for estimating the seismic deformations of underground structures
Soyman, Kadir Buğra; Gülerce, Zeynep; Department of Civil Engineering (2018)
In seismic design of underground structures, simplified semi-deterministic methods based on the stiffness of the soil and the underground structure are used to estimate the seismic deformations. Generally, peak ground acceleration (PGA) value for different hazard levels are provided by the probabilistic seismic hazard assessment (PSHA) analysis, but a single (and deterministic) PGA value is employed in deformation calculations. The objective of this study is to propose a fully probabilistic framework for es...
