Development of wholecell bioreporters for detection of boric acid, cyanide and paraquat
Suluova, Melek; Öktem, Hüseyin Avni; Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (2019)
Chemical industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in the world due to immensely increasing human population. In despite of precautions ruled by legislations, many chemicals are produced and released to into environment. These pollutants get into soil, water and air thus to our food, resulting in serious toxic effects on human health and the destruction of ecosystems. Boric acid, paraquat and cyanide are example for pollution causing chemicals. Due to their possible toxicity, continuous monitoring is n...
Development of amperometric cholinesterase biosensors based on a conducting polymer for detection of anti-dementia drugs and pesticides
Turan, Janset; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Özkan, Necati; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2016)
Cholinesterase enzymes are considered as one of the most important enzymes in living organisms and they are targeted by many inhibitors. Cholinesterase inhibitors are potentially toxic however they also have certain applications as treatment of dementia and Alzheimer’s diseases. These inhibitors can bind the active side of the cholinesterase enzymes forming stable complexes. This inhibitory effect can be used to construct fast and sensitive detection system. Also, conducting polymers are known to be well su...
Development of Silicalite/Glucose Oxidase-Based Biosensor and Its Application for Glucose Determination in Juices and Nectars
Dudchenko, Oleksandr Ye; Pyeshkova, Viktoriya M.; Soldatkin, Oleksandr O.; Akata Kurç, Burcu; Kasap, Berna O.; Soldatkin, Alexey P.; Dzyadevych, Sergei V. (2016-02-03)
The application of silicalite for improvement of enzyme adsorption on new stainless steel electrodes is reported. Glucose oxidase (GOx) was immobilized by two methods: cross-linking by glutaraldehyde (GOx-GA) and cross-linking by glutaraldehyde along with GOx adsorption on silicalite-modified electrode (SME) (GOx-SME-GA). The GOx-SME-GA biosensors were characterized by a four-to fivefold higher sensitivity than GOx-GA biosensor. It was concluded that silicalite together with GA sufficiently enhances enzyme ...
