PCA for gender estimation: Which eigenvectors contribute?
Balci, K; Atalay, Mehmet Volkan (2002-01-01)
A pruning schema is applied to Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) gender classifer MLP uses eigenvector coeffcients of the face space created by Principal Component Analysis (PCA). We show that pruning improves the initial MLP performance by preserving the most effective input while eliminating most of the units and connections. Pruning is also used as a tool to monitor which eigenvectors contribute to gender estimation. In addition, by usage of FERET face database, we test the PCA approach on gender estimation t...
LP relaxation-based solution algorithms for the multi-mode project scheduling with a non-renewable resource
Azizoğlu, Meral; Pamir, Selin Kirbiyik (2015-01-01)
In this study, we consider a multi-mode resource allocation problem with a single non-renewable resource. We assume the resource is released at defined time points and at defined quantities. We also assume that the activity costs are charged once they are completed. Our aim is to minimise the project completion time. We formulate the problem as a pure integer programming model and show that it is strongly NP-hard. We find lower bounds by pure and mixed integer linear programming relaxations of the model and...
Pt-based electrocatalysts for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells prepared by supercritical deposition technique
Bayrakceken, Ayse; Smirnova, Alevtina; Kitkamthorn, Usanee; Aindow, Mark; Turker, Lemi; Eroğlu, İnci; Erkey, Can (Elsevier BV, 2008-05-01)
Pt-based electrocatalysts were prepared on different carbon supports which are multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), Vulcan XC 72R (VXR) and black pearl 2000 (BP2000) using a supercritical carbon dioxide (ScCO2) deposition technique. These catalysts were characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). XRD and HRTEM results demonstrated that the ScCO2 deposition technique enables a high surface area metal phase to be deposit...
PC-based generation of real-time realistic synthetic scenes for low altitude flights
Yilmaz, E; Maras, HH; Yardimci, Y (2004-04-13)
Generation of crowded realistic scenes that include thousands of 3D objects for low altitude flights is not a widely covered topic. In this study we tried to generate immersive and dynamic realistic scenes for low altitude flights by using low cost PC configuration. At the end of the study encouraging results were obtained. Some features offered by high-end image generators regarding out-the-window scene were transported into our implementation. Hundreds of moving human beings, vehicles with realistic motio...
