A liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal has been constructed near Marmara Ereglisi - a coastal town located at the northern coast of the Sea of Marmara in Turkey - to unload imported LNG from Algeria. Regarding the wave related issues in the design of the terminal and offshore operations, a wave climate study - comprising direct wave measurements carried out by a directional type wave buoy during one year period and hindcasting studies based on ten years of hourly wind data recorded at Tekirdag meteorological station - have been performed.

Investigation of a landslide along a natural gas pipeline (Karacabey-Turkey)
TOPAL, TAMER; Akın Ateş, Melek (2008-07-04)
A new natural gas pipeline is under construction to provide the gas interconnection between Turkey and Greece, as well as to create gas ring for southern Europe. The new pipeline 0.90 m in diameter will be constructed next to an existing small diameter pipeline. However, the existing pipeline was broken by a landslide occurred in February 2006 near Karacabey (Bursa). In order to investigate the causes of the landslide and suggest possible remedial measures, geological and geotechnical investigations includi...
Numerical model development for Güzelyurt aquifer, North Cyprus
Demir, Cansu; Ünlü, Kahraman; Akıntuğ, Bertuğ; Department of Environmental Engineering (2018)
Güzelyurt, coastal aquifer, which is an unconfined, is the most important, at the same time the largest drinking, municipal, and irrigational water resource in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). However, the aquifer has exceeded its safe yield capacity due to excessive and uncontrolled pumping over the years and the water quality has been seriously degraded due to seawater intrusion. The “TRNC Water Supply Project”, completed in June 2016, will annually supply about 75 MCM of water via pipeline und...
Investigation Of Waterhammer Problems In Çamlidere Dam - İvedik Water Treatment Plant Pipeline At Various Hydraulic Conditions
Sakabaş, Emre; Bozkuş, Zafer; Department of Civil Engineering (2012)
Çamlıdere Dam supplies significant portion of the potable water demand of the City of Ankara. Consequently, it is very important that the pipelines extending over 60 km between the dam and the treatment plant at İvedik operate continuously. At present, two composite parallel lines are in operation and construction of a third line is considered for the future. It is the aim of this study to investigate the water hammer problems to be expected under various scenarios and also suggest the safe operation condit...
Extreme waves at Filyos, southern Black Sea
Bilyay, E.; Ozbahceci, B. O.; Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet (Copernicus GmbH, 2011-01-01)
A wave measurement project was carried out for a new port planned in Filyos, in the Western Black Sea region of Turkey. The measurement at a depth of 12.5 m lasted for a period of two years and 7949 records were obtained. During the analysis, it was noticed that there were 209 records in which H/H(s) ratio was higher than 2.0. These higher waves in a record are called extreme waves in this study. Although the purpose of wave measurement is not to investigate extreme waves, it is believed that studying these...
