Design and performance analysis of a pump-turbine system using computational fluid dynamics
Yıldız, Mehmet; Albayrak, Kahraman; Çelebioğlu, Kutay; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2011)
In this thesis, a parametric methodology is investigated to design a Pump-Turbine system using Computational Fluid Dynamics ( CFD ). The parts of Pump-Turbine are created parametrically according to the experience curves and theoretical design methods. Then, these parts are modified to obtain 500 kW turbine working as a pump with 28.15 meters head. The final design of Pump-Turbine parts are obtained by adjusting parameters according to the results of the CFD simulations. The designed parts of the Pump-Turbi...
Design and Performance Analysis of a Grid Connected PWM-VSI System
Kantar, Emre; Usluer, S. Nadir; Hava, Ahmet Masum (2013-11-30)
Pulse-width modulation (PWM) voltage source inverters (VSIs) are favorable interface devices to the power grid for renewable energy systems. This paper deals with the design of the LCL-filter and inverter for the grid-connected VSI. A complete design procedure for both reactive and passive components of LCL-filter is demonstrated with a new iterative approach in selection of the filter inductors. The design process for a two-level VSI is clearly illustrated through an example and the dynamic response is inv...
Design, analysis and experimental verification of a piezoelectric vortex energy harvester
Avşar, Ahmet Levent; Şahin, Melin; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2016)
In recent days, alternative energy resources are discussed as an important topic for different applications, therefore an extensive study is conducted for the sustainable and renewable energy resources. The importance of the sustainable and renewable energy resources is also increased due to the fossil fuels usage and environmental pollution. For this reason, techniques for obtaining alternative energy resources, such as from sun and wind, are developed rapidly. Moreover, the energy loss during the operatio...
Design and experimental analysis of mechanical force generators for performance improvement of machines
Ekinci, Mehmet Burak; Soylu, Reşit; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2019)
Recently, a novel overconstrained mechanism with favorable dynamic properties, namely the MFG (Mechanical Force Generator), has been proposed. This mechanism can provide a desired mechanical force, or power variation depending on the position of its input links. This power profile can be adjusted in order to improve the performance of a machine and its actuators that are connected to the MFG. In previous works, determination of an optimum power profile for the MFG and determination of the MFG design paramet...
Design and performance evaluation of a fuel filter
Ayrancı, Hakan; Albayrak, Kahraman; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2010)
This thesis analyzes design criteria’s, performance evaluation of fuel filter. Fundamental concepts, definition and systems has been discussed at literature survey parts. Fundamentals of filter design tests and calculations are discussed. In Addition Frequency and amplitude effect on fuel filter efficiency investigated with different particle sizes by preparing special test set up. Test results has been analyzed by using Regression, Anova and Analyze of Variance methods with Minitab software.
