Structural fusion of condensed benzenoid systems
Türker, Burhan Lemi (1996-01-01)
On the basis of ring topologies, some theorems for the structural fusion of condensed benzenoids are presented. It has been proved that the oddness or evenness of the fused system is dictated by the degree of fusion.
Structural stability of carbon nanocapsules: Molecular-dynamics simulations
Malcıoğlu, Osman Barış; Yilmaz, A; Erkoc, S (2003-09-12)
Structural stability of empty and endohedrally doped carbon nanocapsules have been investigated by performing molecular-dynamics computer simulations. Calculations have been realized by using an empirical many-body potential energy function for carbon. It has been found that empty carbon nanocapsules are relatively more stable with respect to endohedrally doped ones against heat treatment.
Structural stability and energetics of single-walled carbon nanotubes under uniaxial strain
Dereli, G; Ozdogan, C (American Physical Society (APS), 2003-01-15)
A (10x10) single-walled carbon nanotube consisting of 400 atoms with 20 layers is simulated under tensile loading using our developed O(N) parallel tight-binding molecular-dynamics algorithms. It is observed that the simulated carbon nanotube is able to carry the strain up to 122% of the relaxed tube length in elongation and up to 93% for compression. Young's modulus, tensile strength, and the Poisson ratio are calculated and the values found are 0.311 TPa, 4.92 GPa, and 0.287, respectively. The stress-stra...
STRUCTURAL MODIFICATIONS IN AN ARCHAEAL SMALL HEAT SHOCK PROTEIN TO REVEAL MOLECULAR BASIS OF SUBSTRATE TARGETING AND BINDING
Rafiq, Azra; Kocabıyık, Semra; Bat, Erhan; Department of Biochemistry (2022-5-12)
The N-terminal domain (NTD) of small heat shock protein (sHSP) from archaea, Thermoplasma volcanium, is highly hydrophobic in the proximal and distal end. It is 32 amino acids long and has two highly conserved glutamic acid residues at positions 11 and 22. The 3-D model of the dimer generated by homology modelling predicted the NTD to be running away from each other and the dimer interface being formed mainly between β2 and β6 sheets of the Alpha Crystallin Domain (ACD). The decrease in hydrophobicity in th...
Structural characterization of recombinant bovine Go alpha by spectroscopy and homology modeling
MEGA TİBER, PINAR; Orun, Oya; Nacar, Cevdet; Sezerman, Ugur Osman; Severcan, Feride; Severcan, Mete; Matagne, Andre; KAN, BEKİ (2011-01-01)
Go, a member of heterotrimeric guanine nucleotide-binding proteins, is the most abundant form of G protein in the central and peripheral nervous systems. Go alpha has a significant role in neuronal development and function but its signal transduction mechanism remains to be clarified.
