Due to the attractive high-temperature physical properties, platinum metal-base alloys such as Rh-base alloys make them important materials for various technological applications. To understand deeply the structural, thermo-elastic, and lattice dynamical properties of the L1(2)-type (space number 221) of intermetallic compounds Rh3Ti and Rh3V, we have performed ab-initio density-functional theory within the local density approximation (LDA). Specifically, the phonon dispersion curves and corresponding one-phonon density of states (DOS) for both compounds are computed. Some basic physical parameters such as lattice constant, bulk modulus, elastic constants, shear modulus, Young's modulus, and Poison's ratio are also calculated. Our structural results are consistent with the available experimental and other theoretical data. We have also predicted the temperature and pressure variation of the volume, bulk modulus, thermal expansion coefficient, heat capacity, and Debye temperature in a wide pressure (0-80 GPa) and temperature (0-2000 K) ranges. Review of magnesium-based biomaterials and their applications
Sezer, Nurettin; Evis, Zafer; Kayhan, Said Murat; Tahmasebifar, Aydin; Koc, Muammer (2018-03-01)
In biomedical applications, the conventionally used metallic materials, including stainless steel, Co-based alloys and Ti alloys, often times exhibit unsatisfactory results such as stress shielding and metal ion releases. Secondary surgical operation(s) usually become inevitable to prevent long term exposure of body with the toxic implant contents. The metallic biomaterials are being revolutionized with the development of biodegradable materials including several metals, alloys, and metallic glasses. As suc...
The bond work index of mixtures of ceramic raw materials
Ipek, H; Ucbas, Y; Hoşten, Çetin (Elsevier BV, 2005-08-01)
The Bond method of grindability was applied to ceramic raw materials (quartz, kaolin and feldspar) and to their binary and ternary mixtures. The Bond work indices of the admixtures containing a softer component (kaolin) were found to be greater than the weighted average of the work indices of the individual components in the mixture. As a result, separate grinding of ceramic raw materials seems to require less specific energy input than grinding them in admixtures.
The effects of carbon content on the properties of plasma deposited amorphous silicon carbide thin films
Sel, Kıvanç; Atılgan, İsmail; Department of Physics (2007)
The structure and the energy band gap of hydrogenated amorphous silicon carbide are theoretically revised. In the light of defect pool model, density of states distribution is investigated for various regions of mobility gap. The films are deposited by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition system with various gas concentrations at two different, lower (30 mW/cm2) and higher (90 mW/cm2), radio frequency power densities. The elemental composition of hydrogenated amorphous silicon carbide films and relativ...
Investigation of material properties of magnetron sputtered CuAg-In-Se thin films
Güllü, Hasan Hüseyin; Parlak, Mehmet (null; 2016-09-23)
Thin films of copper based chalcopyrite absorber materials are attracting the attention of many researchers because of their favorable optoelectronic properties and good stability makes them suitable for photovoltaic and optoelectronic device applications. These compounds are particularly suitable for making p-n hetero-junctions with the II-VI compounds. Therefore, the utilization of I-III-VI2 group of chalcopyrite semiconductors has been reported in the literature for application in thin film solar cells. ...
Investigation of texture development and Portevin-Le Chatelier bands in 5754 aluminum alloy
Aytuna, Orhan Berk; Efe, Mert; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2019)
Texture and microstructure are substantial parameters for final products which are made of non-heat treatable aluminum alloys such as 5xxx series. Optimizing these parameters is possible via deformation processes and following heat treatments. In this thesis; hot and cold rolling operation, as a basic deformation process, was applied to the aluminum and resulting copper, brass and cube type of texture was investigated. Effects of different annealing parameters on the deformed specimens were also analyzed wi...
