This study investigates the effects of types of impellers and baffles onmethane hydrate formation. Induction time, water conversion to hydrates (hydrate yield), hydrate formation rate and hydrate productivity are components that were estimated. The initial hydrate formation rate is generally higher with the use of Ruston turbine (RT) with higher values 28.93x10(-8)mol/s inRT/RT with full baffle (FB) experiment, but the decline rate of hydrate formation was also high compared to up-pumping pitched blade turbine (PBTU). Power consumption is higher also in RT/RT and PBT/RT with higher value 392,000 W in PBT/RT with no baffle (NB) experiment compared to PBT/PBT and RT/PBT experiments respectively. Induction time values are higher in RT/RT experiments compared to PBT/PBT ones. Hydrate yield is always smaller when there is no baffle in all four groups of experiments while the higher values exist in experiments with full baffle. It should be noticed that PBT is the same with PBTU, since all experiments with mixed flow have upward trending.

Kinetic analysis of CO2 hydrate formation by the use of different impellers
Longinos, Sotirios Nik; Parlaktuna, Mahmut (2021-04-01)
This study investigates the effects of types of impellers with the use of full baffle in carbon dioxide gas hydrate formation. In single impeller experiments initial hydrate formation rate is higher with the use of rushton turbine showing the better interaction between gas and liquid in radial flow due to better pumping capacity and good shear field among pitched blade turbine, triangle turbine and marine propeller, with value 298 x 10(-8) mol/s. In dual impeller experiments mixed flow experiments and more ...
Kinetic analysis of arginine, glycine and valine on methane (95%)–propane (5%) hydrate formation
Longinos, Sotirios Nik.; Parlaktuna, Mahmut (2021-01-01)
The motivation for this study was the potential of arginine, glycine and valine to be examined as promoter or inhibitor on methane (95%)–propane (5%) hydrate formation and the examination of which flow is better for hydrate formation. The experimental outcomes indicated that glycine can be used as inhibitor while valine and arginine can be used as promoters. Rushton turbine experiments had higher values in rates of hydrate formation compared to pitched blade turbines with percentage difference of 4.3% and 4...
Kinetic study of the effect of amino acids on methane (95%)—propane (5%) hydrate formation
Longinos, Sotirios Nik.; Parlaktuna, Mahmut (2021-01-01)
© 2021, Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary. The motivation for this study is the potential of environmental friendly amino acids such as alanine, histidine, phenylalanine and valine to be examined as inhibitors on methane (95%)—propane (5%) hydrate formation together with the hydrodynamic examination of three different flows in hydrate formation process. The outcomes indicated that valine and alanine behave as promoters while histidine and phenylalanine behave as inhibitors. From hydrodynamic perception radi...
Hydrate Inhibition with PEO (Poly 2-ethyl-2-oxazoline)
Bulbul, S.; Kadoura, A. S.; Merey, S.; Parlaktuna, Mahmut (2014-01-01)
This study is aimed at investigating the effects of a poly 2-ethyl-2-oxazoline-type polymer on the prevention of methane hydrate formation. During the study, seven experiments with low concentrations of poly 2-ethyl-2-oxazoline (0 to 1 wt%) were run in a batch-type reactor. The analysis of the experimental study indicates that poly 2-ethyl-2-oxazoline can be considered as a potential kinetic inhibitor for hydrate formation.
Hydrate Formation Conditions of Methane Hydrogen Sulfide Mixtures
Bulbul, S.; Parlaktuna, Mahmut; Mehmetoglu, T.; Karabakal, U. (2014-01-01)
The objective of the study is to determine hydrate formation conditions of methane-hydrogen sulfide mixtures. An experimental work is carried out with different H2S concentrations and both brine and distilled water. The Black Sea conditions, which are suitable for methane-hydrogen sulfide hydrate formation, are examined. Effects of H2S concentration and salinity on the hydrate formation conditions are also obtained during the study. It is concluded that an increase in the salinity shifts the methane-hydroge...
