A series of new donor-acceptor-donor type fluorescent molecules incorporating thieno[3,4-c]pyrrole-4,6-dione (TPD) as the acceptor unit were synthesized. TPD acceptor unit was modified with polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) cages and integrated with thiophene and alkylenedioxythiophene derivatives (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) and 3,4-propylenedioxythiophene (ProDOT)) using Stille coupling reaction. The monomers, T-2-POSS, E-2-POSS, and P-2-POSS, were polymerized successfully via electrochemical and chemical polymerization techniques. As a fingerprint of D-A-D monomers, all monomers showed dual band characteristics due to intramolecular charge transfer. Soluble polymers exhibited reversible electrochromic responses electrochemically and chemically with fast switching times and high coloration efficiencies. E-2-POSS and its polymer PE2-POSS exhibited the lowest oxidation potential and band gap values as compared to their thiophene and ProDOT analogs. Also, P-2-POSS and its chemically obtained fluorescent polymer PP2-POSS-C represented high sensitivity towards Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions, which makes them potential candidates to be amenable for use in ion sensing. Benzyl functionalized benzotriazole containing conjugated polymers: effect of substituent position on electrochromic properties and synthesis of crown ether functionalized electrochromic polymers
Yiğitsoy, Başak; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Department of Chemistry (2011)
A new class of π-conjugated monomers was synthesized with combination of electron donating and electron-withdrawing heterocyclics to understand the effects of structural differences on electrochemical and optoelectronic properties of the resulting polymers. Electron deficient benzotriazole, substititued with benzyl from two available sites, coupled with stannylated electron donating groups, ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) and thiophene (Th), to yield four different monomers; 1-benzyl-4,7-di(thiophen-2-yl))-2H...
Facilitation of water management in low Pt loaded PEM fuel cell by creating hydrophobic microporous layer with PTFE, FEP and PDMS polymers: Effect of polymer and carbon amounts
ÖZTÜRK, Ayşenur; FIÇICILAR, BERKER; Eroğlu, İnci; BAYRAKÇEKEN YURTCAN, Ayşe (2017-08-17)
Microporous layers (MPLs) were prepared with different hydrophobic polymers to establish water management in polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cells. Besides conventionally used polymers polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP), two different molecular weights (MW) of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) polymer were used as hydrophobic materials in MPL. Membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) having MPLs with low MW PDMS polymer exhibited the best fuel cell performance compared to ...
Electrochemical polymerization of 1-(4-nitrophenyl)-2,5-di(2-thienyl)-1 H-pyrrole as a novel immobilization platform for microbial sensing
Tuncagil, Sevinc; ODACI DEMİRKOL, DİLEK; Varis, Serhat; TİMUR, SUNA; Toppare, Levent Kamil (2009-09-01)
Two types of bacterial biosensor were constructed by immobilization of Gluconobacter oxydans and Pseudomonas fluorescens cells on graphite electrodes modified with the conducting polymer; poly(1-(4-nitrophenyl)-2,5-di(2-thienyl)-1 H-pyrrole) [SNS(NO2)]. The measurement was based on the respiratory activity of cells estimated by the oxygen consumption at -0.7 V due to the metabolic activity in the presence of substrate. As well as analytical characterization, the linear detection ranges, effects of electropo...
Multipurpose acetic acid functionalized carbazole derivatives: Synthesis, electrochemical properties and electrochromic device applications
Özdemir Hacıoğlu, Şerife; YİĞİT, DENİZ; Akbey, Tuba E.; UDUM, YASEMİN; GÜLLÜ, MUSTAFA; DEPCİ, TOLGA; Toppare, Levent Kamil (2022-03-01)
In this study, synthesis of two multifunctional acetic acid functionalized carbazole bearing monomers; 243,6-bis(2,3-dihydrothieno [3,4-b] [1,4]dioxin-5-yl)-9H-carbazol-9-yl)acetic acid (Ml) and 3,6-dithien-2-yl-9H car bazol-9-ylaceticacid (M2) via Stille cross-coupling reaction was reported. Obtained monomers were electro-chemically polymerized in 0.1 M TBAPF(6)/DCM/ACN (5:95, v:v) solution and characterized in terms of electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical and electrochromic switching behaviors. When po...
Dimethyl ether, diethyl ether & ethylene from alcohols over tungstophosphoric acid based mesoporous catalysts
Ciftci, Aysegul; VARIŞLI, DİLEK; Tokay, Kenan Cem; Sezgi, Naime Aslı; Doğu, Timur (2012-10-01)
Tungstophosphoric acid (TPA) incorporated silicate structured new mesoporous catalysts were synthesized following one-pot hydrothermal and impregnation procedures. Surface area of TPA@MCM-41, which was prepared by impregnating TPA into MCM-41, was two orders of magnitude higher than the surface area of pure TPA and this catalyst showed very high activity in dehydration reactions of both ethanol and methanol. Ethanol fractional conversion values reaching to 1.0 was obtained at 300 degrees C at a space time o...
