Bu çalışma, AOÇ’nin yönetim ve üretim ilişkilerindeki değişimin mekana etkilerini ele almakta, ve bu değişiklikleri iktisadi siyasa süreçleri ile ilişkilendirerek değerlendirmeyi hedeflemektedir. AOÇ’nin mekansal dönüşümünün 1925-2017 yılları arasında ele alındığı bu çalışmada tarihsel süreç dönemselleştirilerek incelenmiştir. Bu dönemler hem küresel hem yerel bakış açısı ile belirlenen ve esas itibariyle AOÇ’nin yönetim yapısında meydana gelen değişimlerin belirleyici olduğu, üç kırılma noktası ile ele alınmıştır. 1925-1950 yılları arasında AOÇ’nin bütüncül bir mekan olarak devletin modernleşme/devlet politikası ile yönetildiği döneme odaklanılmıştır. 1950-2006 yılları AOÇ’nin 5659 sayılı yasa gereğince bağımsız bir müdürlük olarak yönetildiği bir dönem olmuştur. 2006- 2017 yılları arasındaki dönemi yerel yönetimin ve merkezi otoritenin etkisiyle oluşan bir yönetim anlayışı söz konusu olmuştur. AOÇ’nin kentin makroformuyla mekansal ilişkisi, yönetim ve üretim yapısındaki değişimlerden elde edilen bulgular, kentle mekansal ilişkisinin makro ölçekte (plan kararları), mikro ölçekte (mimari program) ve mekan açısından değişen anlamları ile değerlendirilmiştir.
