İyileştiren Dokunuş: Kos [Adası], Roma Asklepion Tapınağı’na Kutsal Şifa Yolculuğu

Bu çalışma hayırsever Gaius Stertinius Xenophon’un milattan sonra birinci yüzyılda Kos Asklepios Tapınağı’nda inşa ettirdiği su anıtlarını anlatır. Xenophon Roma seyahati sonrasında, Asklepion’da var olan anıtları yeniden biçimlendirmiştir. Hellenistik dönemde istinat duvarı olarak yapılan kemerli duvarı, Asklepios hastalarının temizlik ve şifa ihtiyaçlarını karşılamaya yönelik, Bourina kaynağından getirdiği suyu taşıyan bir boru hattı ile süslemiştir. Su eklentisi ile kemerli duvar Roma su yollarını hatırlatan bir esere dönüşmüştür. Xenophon’un bir diğer anıtı ise doğrudan Roma’ya referans verir. Bu anıt imparatorluk kültüne adanan havuz ve kült heykelinden oluşan bir niş düzenlemesidir. Bu makale her iki anıtın dokunma duyusu aracılığıyla Roma’nın emperyal gücünü iyileştirici bir faktör olarak Asklepios hastalarının kullanımına sunduğunu savunacaktır. Dokunma duyusunun hastalar ve mimari arasındaki ilişkiye olan etkisini göstermek amacıyla tapınağa rüyaları aracılığı ile şifa aramaya gelen hastaların söz konusu anıtlarla etkileşimini canlandıran ve ziyaretçilerin anıtlara yönelik algılarını biçimlendiren kutsal yolculuk hikayesi anlatılacaktır. Bu anlatı özellikle dokunma duyusunun ve görme/ dokunma duyularının ilişkisinin şifaya etkisini vurgulayacaktır.
