Management of Service Function Chains in Programmable Data Plane

Yürekten, Özgür
The rapid development of information technologies necessitates the use of high-speed network technologies. Software defined networking and network function virtualization are critical technologies for high-bandwidth, dynamically managed and cost-effective networks. Offloading network functions to the data plane and management of network service function chain (SFC) using data plane programming improve network performance. In this study, the framework that enables the management of service function chains from the data layer with P4 programming is proposed. The proposed framework can work in hybrid networks and allows SFC-unaware network functions to be used in SFC. In the study, a prototype has been developed for the proposed framework and the preliminary results of evaluations have been presented.

Software tool development for the automated configuration of flexray networks for in vehicle communication
Öztürk, Can; Schmidt, Şenan Ece; Schmidt, Klaus Werner; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2013)
The increasing use of electronic components in today’s automobiles demands more powerful in-vehicle network communication protocols. FlexRay protocol, which is expected to be the de-facto standard in the near future, is a deterministic, fault tolerant and fast protocol designed for in vehicle communication. For proper operation of a FlexRay network the communication schedule needs to be computed and the nodes need to be configured before startup. Current software tools that are geared towards FlexRay only d...
An ideation method in design for iot: Creating object personas via sensor data
Tuna, Nur Nagihan; Hasdoğan, Gülay Fatma; Department of Industrial Design (2020-11-2)
Internet of things (IoT) introduced some challenges as well as many opportunities for designers. Enhanced capabilities of the things transformed them from being passive assistants of humans to active agents that can collect and act on data. On the one hand, the emergence of new and more capable ‘things’ constitutes challenges for designers. Most of the studies are technology-driven, and the unprecedented experiences that designers cannot envision might result in disappointing experiences for users. On ...
Performance evaluation of flexray networks for in-vehicle communication
Demirci, Ali; Schmidt, Şenan Ece; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2009)
The increasing use of electronic components in today’s automobiles demands more powerful in-vehicle network communication protocols. FlexRay protocol, which is expected be the de-facto standard in the near future, is a deterministic, fault tolerant and fast protocol designed for in vehicle communication. In the near future, safety critical X-by-Wire applications will be available in the automobiles and FlexRay networks can be used to provide communication for the Electronic Control Units (ECUs) that perform...

Implementation and evaluation of a synchronous time-slotted medium access protocol for networked industrial embedded systems
Gözcü, Ahmet Korhan; Schmidt, Şenan Ece; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2011)
Dynamic Distributed Dependable Real-time Industrial communication Protocol family (D3RIP), has been proposed in the literature considering the periodic or event-based traffic characteristics of the industrial communication networks. D3RIP framework consists of two protocol families: Interface Layer (IL) protocol family, which is responsible for providing the accurate time-division multiple access (TDMA) on top of a shared-medium broadcast channel, and Coordination Layer (CL), which is defined to fulfill the...
