© 2021 The Author(s). Published by Cambridge University Press in association with the European Microwave Association. In this paper, we present a linear to circular polarization converter integrated in a concrete structure to eliminate signal transmission problem originated from the concrete buildings in microwave regime. Two polarization converter samples and a control specimen made by traditional concrete are designed and their signal transmission responses are compared experimentally. Axial ratio values which can be calculated by the ratio between the co-polar transmission and cross-polar transmission results of the proposed samples are below 3 dB and highly sufficient for linear to circular polarization conversion activity. The operating frequency for the proposed sample 1 is between 6 and 6.5 GHz with 500 MHz of bandwidth. The proposed sample 2 exhibits dual-band operation covering frequency bands, 4.58-5.13 and 6.0-6.4 GHz with bandwidths of 550 and 400 MHz, respectively. Operating frequencies of the samples are in the WIMAX frequency bands. In addition, the liner to circular polarization converter design integrated to concrete has a huge potential to improve reflection and directivity parameters of many antennas if it is considered as a radome.

Designing and implementing a STEM career maturity program for prospective counselors
Karahan, Engin; Kara, Ahmet; AKÇAY, AHMET OĞUZ (2021-12-01)
© 2021, The Author(s).Background: Although the importance of directing students to career options in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields at early ages has been emphasized in the literature, it has not been clearly stated just who will play a role in this process and what kind of consultancy process will be followed. It is of great importance for prospective counselors, who are studying in the field of counseling, to master the career selection process, specifically for STEM, towa...
Assessment of performance of horizontal drains in an open pit mine in eastern Turkey
Argunhan Atalay, Çidem; Yazıcıgil, Hasan (2021-02-01)
© 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH, DE part of Springer Nature.Prediction of spatial distribution of pore-water pressure and its control are the main issues in open pit mines, since excess pore-water pressure is one of the main causes of slope instability. Horizontal drains are commonly used to relieve the excess pore-water pressure as a method of slope stabilization. This paper presents the efficacy of horizontal drains along two cross-sections in an open pit mine locate...
Co-adaptation in Context with Iranian, Russian and Turkish Policies on Syrian Complexity: The Emergence of the Astana Process
Çoban, Mehmet İlbey (2021-01-01)
© 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.This research is based on explaining the dynamics that led the Iran, Russia and Turkey to initiate Astana Process within the framework of the Syrian Civil War’s changing dynamics. The article intends to combine power politics with the “complexity” paradigm. Linear ontology is problematic in explaining the changing dynamics. On the other hand, the complexity paradigm explains non-linear processes derived from its ontological fou...
New human identification method using Tietze graph-based feature generation
Tuncer, Turker; Aydemir, Emrah; DOĞAN, ŞENGÜL; Kobat, M. Ali; Kaya, Muhammed Çağrı; Metin, Serkan (2021-01-01)
© 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals have been widely used for disease diagnosis. Besides, the ECG signals can be used for human identification. In this work, a Tietze pattern and neighborhood component analysis (NCA)-based human identification method is proposed. Our model uses two feature generation methods to extract both statistical and textural features. The Tietze graph is considered to create a pattern ...
Adjustment experiences of Syrian immigrant university students in Turkey
Keklik, İbrahim; Kaya, Özgür Salih (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2021-01-01)
© 2021, The Author(s)This study intended to examine the adjustment experiences of Syrian immigrant university students through their immigration process in Turkey. A qualitative design was utilized. The participants consisted of 14 students attending to state universities in Ankara, 7 of whom were males and 7 females. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews conducted by one of the researchers. Two main categories were identified while analyzing the process of social adaptation of Syrian im...
