A flexible Bayesian mixture approach for multi-modal circular data
Kilic, Muhammet Burak; Kalaylıoğlu Akyıldız, Zeynep Işıl; SenGupta, Ashis (2022-01-01)
In this article, we consider multi-modal circular data and nonparametric inference. We introduce a doubly flexible method based on Dirichlet process circular mixtures in which parameter assumptions are relaxed. We assess and discuss in simulation studies the effi-ciency of the proposed extension relative to the standard finite mixture applications in the analysis of multi-modal circular data. The real data application shows that this relaxed approach is promising for making important contributions to our un...
A Favorable Weight-Based Evolutionary Algorithm for Multiple Criteria Problems
SOYLU, Banu; Köksalan, Mustafa Murat (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2010-04-01)
In this paper, we present a favorable weight-based evolutionary algorithm for multiple criteria problems. The algorithm tries to both approximate the Pareto frontier and evenly distribute the solutions over the frontier. These two goals are common for many multiobjective evolutionary algorithms. To achieve these goals in our algorithm, each member selects its own weights for a weighted Tchebycheff distance function to define its fitness score. The fitness scores favor solutions that are closer to the Pareto...
A Robust Parameter Estimation Method Based on LAV Estimator
Özdemir, Volkan; Göl, Murat (2015-07-09)
In a power system, it is known that parameters may carry small errors due to the weather conditions, such as temperature and humidity changes, as well as gross errors due to the miscommunication between the control center and circuit breakers and tap changers. Those incorrect parameters may cause biased state estimates, which may have serious results. Therefore, those parameter errors should be identified and corrected. Considering the increasing number of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs), in this paper it i...
A robust algorithm for configurational-force-driven brittle crack propagation with R-adaptive mesh alignment
MIEHE, CHRISTIAN; Gürses, Ercan (2007-10-08)
The paper considers a variational formulation of brittle fracture in elastic solids and proposes a numerical implementation by a finite element method. On the theoretical side, we outline a consistent thermodynamic framework for crack propagation in an elastic solid. It is shown that both the elastic equilibrium response as well as the local crack evolution follow in a natural format by exploitation of a global Clausius-Planck inequality in the sense of Coleman's method. Here, the canonical direction of the...
A fast and optimal static segment scheduling method for FlexRay v3.0
ÇAKMAK, CUMHUR; Schmidt, Şenan Ece; Schmidt, Klaus Verner (2017-06-29)
We propose a novel and fast frame scheduling method for the Static Segment (SS) of the new in-vehicle network standard FlexRay v3.0 in this paper. The proposed methods assigns frames to the SS using the minimum number of time slots based on an Integer Linear Programming formulation. Different. from the existing method in the literature, the proposed method computes optimal frame schedules within miliseconds.
