Energy mutual funds and oil prices
Gormus, Alper; Diltz, John David; Soytaş, Uğur (Emerald, 2018-01-01)
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the price level and volatility impacts of oil prices on energy mutual funds (EMFs). The authors also examine specific fund characteristics which might influence those interactions.
Pre-service elementary teachers' noticing expertise of students' mathematical thinking: the case of fractions
Coskun, Sumeyra Dogan; Sitrava, Reyhan Tekin; Işıksal Bostan, Mine (2021-10-01)
The purpose of the study is to investigate pre-service elementary teachers' noticing expertise of students' mathematical thinking within the context of fractions. For this purpose, 32 pre-service elementary teachers were asked to examine students' answers and ways of thinking given in written excerpts related to fractions. The data was mainly analysed using the constant comparative method to identify similarities and differences in pre-service elementary teachers' answers based on the existing Professional ...
Water soluble nickel(0) and cobalt(0) nanoclusters stabilized by poly(4-styrenesulfonic acid-co-maleic acid): Highly active, durable and cost effective catalysts in hydrogen generation from the hydrolysis of ammonia borane
Metin, Onder; Özkar, Saim (2011-01-01)
This paper reports the in-situ generation and catalytic activity of nickel(0) and cobalt(0) nanoclusters stabilized by poly(4-styrene sulfonic acid-co-maleic acid), PSSA-co-MA, in the hydrolysis of ammonia borane (AB). PSSA-co-MA stabilized nickel(0) (PSMA-Ni) and cobalt(0) nanoclusters (PSMA-Co) having average particle size of 2.1 +/- 0.6 and 5.3 +/- 1.6 nm, respectively, were generated by in-situ reduction of nickel(II) chloride or cobalt(II) chloride in an aquoues solution of NaBH(4)/H(3)NBH(3) in the pr...
Numerical assessment of tsunami attack on a rubble mound breakwater using OpenFOAM (R)
GÜLER, HASAN GÖKHAN; Baykal, Cüneyt; Arikawa, Taro; Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet (2018-03-01)
A numerical assessment study of tsunami attack on the rubble mound breakwater of Haydarpasa Port, located at the southern entrance of the Istanbul Bosphorus Strait in the Sea of Marmara, Turkey, is carried out in this study using a Volume-Averaged Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes solver, IHFOAM, developed in OpenFOAM (R) environment. The numerical model is calibrated with and validated against the data from solitary wave and tsunami overflow experiments representing tsunami attack. Furthermore, attack of a p...
Jump detection with power and bipower variation processes
Dursun, Havva Özlem; Hayfavi, Azize; Department of Financial Mathematics (2007)
In this study, we show that realized bipower variation which is an extension of realized power variation is an alternative method that estimates integrated variance like realized variance. It is seen that realized bipower variation is robust to rare jumps. Robustness means that if we add rare jumps to a stochastic volatility process, realized bipower variation process continues to estimate integrated variance although realized variance estimates integrated variance plus the quadratic variation of the jump c...
